Description

The South Coast of Iceland is truly amazing to witness and should be on everyone´s bucket list. Majestic waterfalls, stunning black beach, a touch of a glacier and beautiful rock formations are but a sample of what this beautiful day tour has to offer.

On top of that, the area holds one of the most enriching historical importance for Iceland. Whether it being about the settlement period or tales of Vikings, one could spend days telling tales of Icelanders in the South Coast.

The day starts by driving out of the Reykjavik capital area and into the countryside. Past geothermal areas such as Hveragerdi, Selfoss and Hvolsvollur where the landscape changes rapidly and there is always a feast for the eyes.

The first attraction is Seljalandsfoss waterfall, an iconic waterfall due to its closeness to the Ring Road and the fact that people can walk behind it. It runs from the Eyjafjallajokull volcanic glacier, which erupted in 2011, causing problems in flight in Europe for weeks. Next up is Skógafoss waterfall, an impressive 60-metre high water mass downing into the earth. Also located close to the Ring Road, it is a must-see on this route.

Back on the road, you will then visit Solheimajokull glacier and take a walk up to the edge of the ice-cap, touching the snow and learning more about the fascinating natural feature.

The Viking trail will then take you to Reynisfjara black sand beach with its magnificent basalt rock formations and Reynisdrangar sea stacks standing out in the ocean. One could spend hours there admiring the power of the Atlantic Ocean as its waves crash into the black shores.

The small fishing village of Vik is extremely pretty and nice to visit; there is a certain calmness over the place as well as beautiful views out to sea. There are many places for you to get some lunch or light refreshments as well as some uniquely Icelandic souvenirs.

There are many other beautiful stops on the way our guides will explain to you the history and culture of our country. Feel free to tuck yourself into one of our Icelandic wool blankets while you take in the beauty and culture of Iceland. There is free wifi on board the bus for you to share your experience live on social media.

Join this tour and discover the wonder of Iceland’s South Coast. Check availability by choosing a date.
