Explore the beautiful vistas of South Iceland and the incredible Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon on this immersive Super Jeep adventure. The limited space in your vehicle means that this tour is personal and comfortable.
Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Reykjavík. The first stops will be to four waterfalls, each of them unique and spectacular in their own right.
The first of these is lesser-known than the others, making it a favourite amongst photographers; Urriðafoss is the largest and most beautiful waterfall on the river Þjórsá. Following your time here, you will reach the magnificent Seljalandsfoss, which you can walk all the way around for some incredibly special views.
Beside Seljalandsfoss, but too often overlooked, is Gljúfrabúi. This waterfall is tucked into a ravine, meaning it requires a little exploration up a shallow stream to reach. Getting a little damp, however, is a small price to pay for the chance to marvel at its beauty.
You will then head to Skógafoss, which could not be more different. Visible from a mile away, this mightily impressive waterfall thunders off a dramatic cliff, and it is possible to walk right up to where the water is falling. Steps rise beside the falls, to several unique viewing platforms.
Next, you will head to the coastal rock arch of Dyrhólaey. Fascinating basalt formations can be found here, as well as a wealth of birdlife in summer, including puffins. Right beside it is the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, where you can see the Reynisdrangar sea stacks standing tall in the turbulent waters.
Past the village of Vík, you'll stop at Fjaðrárgljúfur, a beautiful canyon. Stood upon its precipice, you will see fascinating lava formations, beautiful green moss crawling across the rocks, and a crystalline river snaking below.
Next, you'll reach the Skaftafell Nature Reserve and take a short walk to the edge of a glacier tongue. The ancient ice is otherworldly and awe-inspiring, which is hardly surprising in Skaftafell; the entire reserve, with its beautiful waterfalls, verdant forests, and daunting peaks, is one of the most spectacular places in the country.
Before reaching the lagoon, you will stop at another glacier, Svínafellsjökull. Here, vast stretches of black sand and dark craters contrast with the magnificent wall of blue and white ice.
Finally, you'll reach Jökulsárlón, the famed glacier lagoon. You will be left in no doubt as to why it is considered one of the most beautiful places in the world. Watching massive icebergs break from a glacier, and serenely sail over the lagoon to the ocean, is a captivating, magical experience. It is only made better by the seals that call the area home, and the adjacent Diamond Beach, where these bergs wash up on the shore and glitter like gems.
