Description

Jump aboard this sightseeing tour of the South Coast, complete with a glacier hike upon Sólheimajökull. This tour is perfect for those eager to see some of Iceland’s most iconic landmarks without missing out on any adventure.

This tour begins when you are picked up from your accommodation in Reykjavík city.

The main road along the South Coast is lined with beautiful features. The first you will come to is a waterfall you can walk all the way around, called Seljalandsfoss. The stream that feeds this falls comes from the notorious glacier and volcano Eyjafjallajökull, which erupted in 2010; you can see this peak on clear days. A little further along is another incredible waterfall, the wider and more powerful Skógafoss. If the weather is especially good, you should also be able to see across the ocean to the Westman Islands.

Your next stop after these waterfalls will be the glacier tongue of Sólheimajökull. Here, you will be provided with all the equipment you need to scale it, told about safety, and then led onto an exhilarating and fascinating glacier hike.

The ice-cap itself looks otherworldly, and the views from it are incredible. There are very few places in the world where ascending a glacier is so accessible; thus you will want a camera in hand to enshrine the memories that you make here.

After enjoying your time on the glacier, you will continue along the South Coast to the beautiful stretch of black sand beach called Reynisfjara. This area is renowned for its strange geology, with the enormous Dyrhólaey arch, with its hexagonal basalt columns, and the sea stacks of Reynisdrangar said to be the remains of two trolls petrified by the sun. If coming in the summer months, this area has a wealth of nesting puffins you can admire.

Once you have appreciated the beauty of this beach, you will return to the bus and enjoy the scenic drive back to Reykjavík.

Do not miss this immersive, small-group tour to the glacier and along the South Coast. Check availability by choosing a date.
