The Westfjords are one of the most impressive but least-visited places in Iceland. This remote area is packed with incredible sights such as breathtaking mountain ranges, verdant valleys and spectacular waterfalls such as Dynjandi falls which you will visit on this tour.
You will meet your guide in the town of Ísafjörður and board a super jeep, a large, custom vehicle built to handle Iceland’s rough terrain. As the mountain roads of the Westfjords are often inaccessible for smaller cars during the wintertime, a super jeep is a must when traversing the area.
Departing from Ísafjörður, this journey will take us from Isafjordur through two different underground tunnels, across mountains, and along beautiful fjords. The thunderous waterfall Dynjandi awaits us in Arnarfjorður fjord. You will stop there for approximately one hour to hike up to this majestic waterfall's base.
The waterfall is clearly visible from the parking lot, so you don’t need to hike if you don’t want to. On our way back, you will stop at Hrafnseyri cafe where you can buy coffee and cakes if you are interested, and then drive by the farm Audkula, where there is a large colony of Eider Ducks during the breeding season. Who knows, maybe you will see King Eider in the nesting area.
It’s very common to see Humpback whales in the fjord during the summer months. If possible, you will drive back across the mountains on either Hrafnseyrarheiði heath road or Álftamýrarheiði heath road, which are only passable in the summer months. (if the mountain roads are not passable, you will drive through the tunnels both ways)
