Visit Dynjandi Waterfall in Arnarfjordur Fjord on this Super Jeep tour from Isafjordur, with stops for history, wildlife, and mountain views along the way.
The tour starts in Isafjordur, where you board a 4x4 truck with your local guide. You drive through two tunnels and then climb high above the fjords on winding backcountry roads.
At Dynjandi Waterfall, you stop for about an hour. The multi-tiered waterfall is about 328 feet (100 meters) high and spreads over the cliffs like a bridal veil. You can hike up to the base of the main waterfall or admire it from the parking area.
Next, you stop at the Hrafnseyri Museum and cafe, where you can learn some Icelandic history and buy a light lunch or coffee and cake at your own expense.
As you continue past Audkula Farm, look out for the eider duck colony in breeding season, the rare king eider, the occasional Arctic fox, and humpback whales surfacing in the fjord in summer.
If conditions allow, you return over one of two mountain roads, Hrafnseyrarheidi or Alftamyrarheidi, which are open only in summer and offer panoramic views.
A 4x4 trail then takes you to the top of Sandafell Mountain, with views over Dyrafjordur Fjord. The tour ends with a sightseeing drive through Thingeyri Village before you return to Isafjordur.
