Description

Discover the beauty of one of Iceland’s most iconic sightseeing routes on this private Golden Circle tour. This 9-hour adventure is also a gourmet trip that takes travelers to the route’s must-see attractions, including stops at restaurants that serve delicious Icelandic dishes.

The action begins when an expert local guide picks you up at a designated location in Reykjavik. You’ll then ride a comfortable luxury vehicle that will take you around the Golden Circle throughout the day.

The Golden Circle is a 186-mile (300-kilometer) loop that encompasses three major attractions: Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, and the Geysir geothermal area.

Your first major stop is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, the guide may first take you to a local bakery specializing in Icelandic Rye bread and other pastries. After enjoying a quick bite, you’ll continue toward Thingvellir National Park.

Known as the birthplace of the Althing, the world's oldest continuous parliament, established in 930 AD, Thingvellir National Park is one of the most important locations in Iceland’s history. Geologically, the park lies in a rift valley where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart. You can walk along the Almannagja gorge, a visible representation of the tectonic plate boundaries.

You’ll also enjoy beautiful views of the Oxararfoss waterfall beside the Almannagja gorge. Oxararfoss waterfall became even more popular after it became one of the filming locations in the hit TV series “Game of Thrones.” You’ll also visit Thingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest natural lake, covering an area of approximately 32 square miles (84 square kilometers).

Next, you’ll head to the Fridheimar Tomato Farm for lunch. The restaurant offers an immersive experience of greenhouse farming, where most of its dishes feature tomatoes.

After a hearty meal at the Fridheimar Tomato Farm, the guide will take you to the fascinating Geysir geothermal area. Located in the Haukadalur Valley, the Geysir geothermal area is home to Iceland’s two most popular geysers: the Great Geysir and Strokkur.

The Great Geysir is less active today than in the past. On the other hand, nearby Strokkur has become the more active of the two. It regularly erupts every 5-10 minutes, reaching heights of 49 to 66 feet (15 to 20 meters), which is a sight to behold.

After enjoying the geothermal wonders in Geysir, you’ll head to the mighty Gullfoss waterfall. One of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls, Gullfoss has a name that means "Golden Falls," derived from the golden hue that often illuminates the cascading water during sunny days.

You’ll see Gullfoss waterfall’s two majestic cascades. The upper tier drops approximately 36 feet (11 meters), followed by a dramatic plunge of 69 feet (21 meters) into a rugged canyon below. You can also explore Gullfoss from various vantage points, thanks to well-maintained paths and viewing platforms.

Before returning to Reykjavik, the guide will take you to Efstidalur Farm to taste Icelandic ice cream in unique flavors. Since this is a bespoke tour, you can insert other activities in your itinerary. You may book a snorkeling adventure at the Silfra fissure in Thingvellir National Park. In addition, you may schedule a dip at the relaxing geothermal hot pools at Laugarvatn Fontana Spa.

Don’t miss this chance to experience the wonders of the Golden Circle and taste some local delicacies on this private bespoke gourmet tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
