Description

Get to know some of Iceland's most beloved animals with this combination tour of horseback riding across some of Iceland's beautiful landscapes and a whale-watching excursion in the Reykjavik harbor. Travelers seeking a magical experience with the beautiful animals that call Iceland home should book this tour today.

Today's adventure begins with a two-hour horseback ride. You can choose to be picked up from your Reykjavik hotel at 09:00, or you can drive to Ishetar's stable yourself, located about nine miles (15 kilometers) from Reykjavik. If you choose to travel to the stable on your own, please make sure to arrive before 09:30.

Once you arrive at the stable, you'll meet the friendly Icelandic horses and learn about this hardy breed known worldwide for their two unique gaits: the tolt and the flying pace.

Your experienced guide will then brief you on how to safely ride an Icelandic horse and help you with the necessary gear for the activity. Be sure to dress in warm, waterproof layers and wear heeled, close-toed boots if you prefer not to use the rubber boots provided. Participants must be at least eight years of age.

Once you're ready, it's time to mount your horse and head off for your exciting ride!

You'll gallop across the sweeping lava fields and rolling hills of Iceland's breathtaking countryside. Horseback riding is a fantastic way to see places that can't be reached by car, and it's great fun.

After your memorable horse ride, it's time to head back to the stable and prepare for the next part of the tour. But before you leave, your guide will offer you warm beverages and give you a chance to say goodbye to your new friend.

You'll then head to the Old Harbor in Reykjavik City for the whale-watching activity in Faxafloi bay. Departing at 13:00, you'll spend about three hours on the boat searching for the gentle giants of the ocean.

The most common species found in Faxafloi bay are minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbor porpoises. Seeing one of these incredible creatures in its natural habitat is an unforgettable experience.

If you don't spot any whales on your excursion, the operator will offer you a free replacement tour for another attempt. Whale sightings are common in the bay, but there is never a guarantee when it comes to wild animals!

Spending time on the water can be chilly at any time of year, so warm overalls will be provided, but it's still highly recommended that you wear warm, waterproof layers and sturdy shoes.

If you prefer to take your lunch before seeing the whales, you may book the express whale-watching tour, which departs an hour later at 14:00. This express tour is seasonal, so check with the operator before booking.

Adventurous travelers interested in spending time with some of Iceland's most famous animals will love this horseback riding and whale-watching combo tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
