Hop on board a speedy Zodiac inflatable boat for a tour among the massive icebergs of Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. This is part of an essential Icelandic experience, admiring the sun shining through the clouds on the blue-and-white ice floating peacefully from the lagoon.

Boat tours began at the lagoon in 1985, after the opening sequence of the Bond film A View to a Kill was shot on location. Today, they are one of the most popular activities in Iceland, and three other major motion pictures have been shot on the lagoon to catch the unbelievable scenery.

The glacier lagoon has been expanding since the 1970s due to the retreat of Vatnajökull glacier, pulling back from the coastline. It is now the deepest lake in Iceland, filling with ancient ice that cracks off of Breiðamerkurjökull glacial tongue, floating down rivers of meltwater to the glacier, where they float slowly out to sea, pulled by the tides.

In good weather, gulls and seals often play on the ice. Photographers love to capture these animals, along with the huge chunks of ice as they float by or wash up on nearby Diamond Beach and lie sparkling on the black sand like diamonds on velvet.

After making your way to Jökulsárlón to meet your group 30 minutes before tour departure, you’ll be provided with flotation suits and a life jacket. The small, low construction of the Zodiac boats allows you to explore a large area of the lagoon and get up close and personal with the ice (as close as safety allows).

Take this opportunity to whizz across the magnificent glacier lagoon in a high-powered Zodiac! Check availability by choosing a date.

Definitely recommend this tour, not just the one in the amphibian boat. Fantastic tour, worth it.

Amazing, the trip totally worth it. I really recommend this trip and not just the one in the amphibian boat. With this speedboat we went up to the glacier, cross the lagoon and had very good shots of the landscape. They give you the required safety clothes to keep warm and safety vest. Very nice trip!

The tour was really amazing! We had a great view of the lake and got very close to the edge of the glacier. The speed boat was a lot of fun as well.

We absolutely loved this tour! The glaciers were incredible and our guide was friendly and very knowledge. I’d highly recommend the zodiac boats as they get so close to the massive glaciers

This tour was amazing. I like the small speed boats. There were about 8 people on the same boat with us. We got really close to the glacier and ice in the lagoon. It was raining really bad at the time, but it was still lots of fun. The suits kept us warm. The guide was really nice as well.

Great. The check in was easy, and we were provided warm suits (didn't need to have weatherproof gear). We debated between the Zodiac and regular boats, but glad we did this one since the suits were very warm and we could get closer. The guide was great in explaining how the glaciers are changing and we even saw seals as well. Also take the time to go to the shore across the road to see them up close on the beach.

There are so many great tours you can do in Iceland, but this has to be one of the best. I've done this tour twice now with my daughter, and we've loved it both times. You really get a chance to get up close to the icebergs and the glacier, while still keeping a safe distance. The tour guide was great -- he explained the science behind how the icebergs form, how they get their color, etc. He was very patient in answering questions and making sure we could take some nice photos. We also got to see a seal basking in the sun on one of the icebergs. It's a great mix of going fast on the boat but also getting a chance to enjoy the natural setting. There are only about 8 people on each boat so it felt more personal than larger tours. Agree with other reviewers that you can appreciate the icebergs from the shore, but getting to see them from the boat is a whole different experience. Definitely recommend this tour!

Fabulous tour! Though you can see the icebergs from shore without getting on a boat, it is SO much more interesting to get closer with the Zodiac boat. Plus, the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the glacier environment and went out of his way to answer every question. Didn’t hurt that he was quite good-looking and looked like a real Viking
