Hop on board a speedy Zodiac inflatable boat for a tour among the massive icebergs of Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. This is part of an essential Icelandic experience, admiring the sun shining through the clouds on the blue-and-white ice floating peacefully from the lagoon.

Boat tours began at the lagoon in 1985, after the opening sequence of the Bond film A View to a Kill was shot on location. Today, they are one of the most popular activities in Iceland, and three other major motion pictures have been shot on the lagoon to catch the unbelievable scenery.

The glacier lagoon has been expanding since the 1970s due to the retreat of Vatnajökull glacier, pulling back from the coastline. It is now the deepest lake in Iceland, filling with ancient ice that cracks off of Breiðamerkurjökull glacial tongue, floating down rivers of meltwater to the glacier, where they float slowly out to sea, pulled by the tides.

In good weather, gulls and seals often play on the ice. Photographers love to capture these animals, along with the huge chunks of ice as they float by or wash up on nearby Diamond Beach and lie sparkling on the black sand like diamonds on velvet.

After making your way to Jökulsárlón to meet your group 30 minutes before tour departure, you’ll be provided with flotation suits and a life jacket. The small, low construction of the Zodiac boats allows you to explore a large area of the lagoon and get up close and personal with the ice (as close as safety allows).

Take this opportunity to whizz across the magnificent glacier lagoon in a high-powered Zodiac! Check availability by choosing a date.

What a great experience. the boat driver shared great stories and information on the tour. We got up real close to the glacier and even heard it crack. Take the zodiac tour for a more up close and intimate experience with the glacier!

Our Guide to Iceland Ring Road Self-Driving Tour was fantastic. Before we chose Guide to Iceland, I looked at several other companies – I found Guide to Iceland to have the best, most user-friendly website, and the quickest email response time. Our agent was always very responsive during the booking process, and also when we were in Iceland and I emailed several times with specific questions. The accommodations were superb, the itinerary complete and informative, and the geo coordinates we used to get from one amazing location to the next were spot-on. We were able to fully enjoy the beauty and majesty of Iceland because we were so confident that all of our accommodations were taken care of by Guide to Iceland.

My family loved, loved this tour! One of the very best tours! We were very lucky to have beautiful weather and calm waters. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and fun! It was so fantastic to get so close to the icebergs and actually hold one. Being surrounded by the beautiful icebergs is such a unique experience. Thank you so much for a memorable adventure!

We loved the Zodiac boat ride. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide was great - charming and knowledgeable and he looked like he walked off the set of Game of Thrones! We saw a seal resting on a piece of floating ice dive into the water. It was amazing. The icebergs were spectacular and the ride was exhilarating. A special experience!

Our guide, Simon, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We had an amazing tour of the glacier lagoon, and even saw and heard a few chunks of ice falling off the glacier into the lagoon. Even saw a seal or two lazing about. The tour, from start to finish, was smooth and truly enjoyable.

Together with a whale watching tour in Husavik, this trip was the highlight of our holiday in Iceland. Fantastic, mesmerizing, beautiful. If you think the iridescent blue of the ice was somehow photoshopped, go visit and see for yourself. It was quite foggy during our tour, which gave the lake a haunted beauty. Really thrilling to weave around the ice in a speedboat. Tip: wear gloves and maybe a hat. While the overalls will keep you very warm, your exposed fingers will soon know the true meaning of sailing through ice! Can't recommend this trip highly enough. So glad we went!

The tour was well-organized and our guide was very knowledgeable, he shared a lot of information about glaciers (in general, not only about the particular one). The weather was super, sunny, but it was cold between the icebergs. We were on the lake for more then one hour, and watched many icebergs. Few of them was very newly calved.

Our guide was amazing and the glacier was remarkable. He kept our boat out a little longer than scheduled to see an iceberg breaking off the glacier, which was incredible. We also saw seals! The full-body suits helped keep us warm and comfortable.
