Currently I am a student at the University of Iceland and research the impact of tourism on protected areas. Within my study, I research hiking trails in the northern part of Vatnajökull National Park and the protected areas in Hokkaido, Japan. As well as look at the other aspects of sustainable tourism management with regards to local communities and protected area management. Topics related to this study are equity in tourism management, governance networks, and public policies about protected areas. Of particular interest is the importance of tour guides for protected area managmenet. I finished the masters program in Environment and Natural Resources with a M.Sc. from the department of Industrial Engineering. My masters thesis dealt with conflict management for stakeholders of protected areas in Iceland and Japan. Before my graduate program I also finished my Diplom studies in Germany at the Hof University of Applied Sciences with a Diplom Wirtschaftsingenieur (FH). Besides this, I was a member of the Multicultural Council at the Reykjavik City (2012-2014), the chairman of Arkímedes - the organization of PhD students and Post-doc at the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences (since 2012), and other voluntary positions. Currently I work part time as a tour guide and in a tourist information.
