Hidden treasures of West Iceland
Hi guys!
I want to give you an insight to the hidden treasures of Iceland. This time I will give you a few secrets of mine, and in the next few days and weeks I will post some more of my tips about the most beautiful places in Iceland.
You can contact me for tours to these places, I run Wild West Tours.
West Iceland is a part of Iceland that is not well known by the common traveller in Iceland. In my opinion that is a tragedy because we have all of these natural wonders that are waiting to be discovered by people all over the world. Let me give you a few examples from my hometown Akranes and Hvalfjordur, which is right next door to Akranes.
Akrafjall in Akranes is my hometowns local mountain. I hike up there regularly and it is the greatest workout I can imagine during summer. Akrafjall mountain is relatively easy to climb and is therefore suitable for family hikes.
Akranes light house is an old light house placed at Breiðin in Akranes. They are two, the older and smaller one is not open for public but the new one is open and not only will the view from up there on a sunny day give you goosebumps but the picturesque sound in there will blow your mind while you sing your heart out in there. The older one has been voted one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world.
Langisandur is one of Iceland's few natural sun bathing beaches. When the weather is sunny and hot this is the perfect place to come to and enjoy one of Iceland's natural wonder. And even if the weather is not that good, a walk on the beach is always necessary and will give your mind a great peace of mind
If we move longer west we arrive at Hvalfjörður and at the bottom of the fjord is one of my favourite hiking trail which leads up to the highest waterfall of Iceland, Glymur. The view from up there is amazing, on a good day you can see all over Hvalfjord and all the way over to Snæfellsnes.
So here it is, my first of many treasures of West Iceland. I hope you enjoyed this post and I look forward telling you more about my favorite places in the world! Contact me for more information.
Helga :)
