Hresso is one of Reykjavik's most iconic restaurants and a beloved favorite among locals. It's been on Austurstraeti Street since 1932, and it has evolved through the decades. From a 1930s tea room to a bistro, it has always remained a cultural hub in the heart of the city.
Hresso is a partner in Guide to Iceland's VIP Club, but is currently closed. The member discount will be available again once the restaurant reopens.
Hresso Menu
Before closing, Hresso's menu paired fresh Icelandic seafood with hearty comfort food. Regulars came for the Icelandic fish and chips and the wolffish cheeks in a creamy shellfish stock, while meat eaters leaned toward the Hresso burger with gouda, lamb sirloin with smoked potatoes, or steak frites.
Lighter options included a vegetarian tomato soup and a fresh salad, and dessert meant skyr mousse with strawberries and lemon meringue or kleina, an Icelandic twisted doughnut served with pastry cream and light caramel.
The bar carried a good range of beers, including non-alcoholic options, alongside house wines and prosecco, and a daily happy hour made it a popular late-afternoon stop.
