This tour is fantastic! Tour date 16/12/18. Our tour guide, Omar was very informative and great company for the day. (Thank you!) It was a stretch to see everything in daylight this time of year, but the tour is structured well to take this into account. Reynisfjara black sand beach and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon are my tour highlights, but everything we saw on this journey was spectacular!
Nice driver and nice trip. it was the most wonderful day we spent in Iceland, especially for people who have a short stay in Iceland.
I went on this tour on the 18th July 2018 and I can only say I was thoroughly disappointed.
There were many aspects of the tour that fell way below my expectations:
1) The biggest one of all was the amount of knowledge/information the tour guide shared. The only time he shared information was at the glacier and at the coastal settlement, each lasting about 5 minutes at most. He was quiet for the rest of the trip (including the car rides and hike) and I had to even ask him questions to get him to share. He would give a cordial response but it was always short and didn’t bother elaborating further.
At ine point, I had to even tell him to share more about Iceland with us and he said he didn’t know much and just told us a story about the 2 Viking brothers.
Honestly, he felt more like a driver rather than a guide, which I could have already done myself since I’ve rented a 4x4.
2) During the thorsmork hike, he would hike ahead, far in front from all of us instead of walking with us and it felt so rushed. My parents who are elderly struggled to keep up and he did not bother pacing with them.
3) This is the tour description. “Then, you will make your way to Stakkholtsjá and embark on a hike to the bottom of this ethereal canyon”
The tour description made it sound like we were going to hike to the end of the Stakkholtsjá canyon but he told us to go 200m, take a few quick photos and to come back out as the hike will take too long. We were there for about 10 minutes only.
4) Lastly, the tour ended an hour early and that is including the longer route that he took to show us the costal settlement which added 30mins to the return journey. Whilst I appreciate some insight into the costal homes, I would very much prefer to have spent that extra time doing something that was actually described on the website. In total, there could have been 1.5 hours (30mins from costal settlement and 1 hour ending early) to do the hike to the bottom of the canyon.
Guidetoiceland looks like a legitimate company and I would have expected that the tours they put on their website would have been properly vetted. For a premium private tour, it missed my expectations by a huge margin and I feel cheated of my money. Honest to god, this is the worst tour I’ve had.
Regardless, I must say that he was accommodating to our requests and he was never rude. He is just a terrible tour guide and I was over promised by the descriptions on the website.
