Katlatrack was established in the spring of 2009 with the goal of providing diverse forms of recreation in South Iceland.
The founder of Katlatrack is born and bred in Mýrdalur in the county of Vestur-Skaftafellssýsla. He has a great deal of knowledge of the area and its history. He also has considerable experience of mountaineering, both on foot and in all-terrain vehicles, both in winter and summer
The primary emphasis of Katlatrack‘s activities revolves around the glacier Mýrdalsjökull and Katla, Iceland’s most powerful volcano which sleeps under its thick blanket of ice, and the majestic nature which surrounds that area.
Katlatrack makes every effort to adapt their trips to your needs so that you will have the best possible experience.
What makes Katlatrack Different?
Anyone can visit a tourist attraction, but we want to show you so much more. At Katlatrack, our focus is showing you the non-touristy, off the beaten path side of Iceland. Because our tour company is truly local to the area, we have access to private land that other tour companies simply can’t access. We’ll show you secret caves, private waterfalls, and many other hidden gems, AND you’ll get to experience them in the privacy of your small group - no big tourist busses here! We pride ourselves on offering unique experiences that are only possible with your Katlatrack guide.
At Katlatrack, we also make safety our top priority. Iceland is a spectacular and wild country, but there are unique risks and dangers that visitors need to be aware of. Our safety record is impeccable, thanks to our state of the art equipment, our detailed emergency plans, and most importantly, our people. All of Katlatrack’s guides are comprehensively trained and experienced in 4x4 driving, Ice Caving and First Aid procedures. In fact, many of our guides are members of Iceland’s Search & Rescue Team. As our guest, you couldn’t be in safer hands.
