19-Day Self-Drive Tour Around Iceland
We booked the 19-day self-drive tour around Iceland for the period June-July 2022 with Guide to Iceland and are still quite enthusiastic about this beautiful country and the friendly and relaxed people you meet there. A tour like this is very appealing if you want to plan the daily activities yourself, but do not want to worry about rental cars and hotel bookings.
The daily routes and destinations are well balanced between driving time and activities. Also, the activities that can be chosen and suggested by the agency fit well into the overall itinerary. We booked a few additional activities, such as the lava cave tour at Vidgelmir, the Zodiac boat trip on the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, and the Skaftafell glacier hike on Vatnajokull, all of which were well organized and of high quality. For a first visit to Iceland, as was the case with our trip, the pre-defined tour with the possible activities that you can decide on provides a good orientation.
Booking through Guide to Iceland is straightforward and the contact with the travel agents is very friendly and helpful. Sometimes it took a while to get a response through the booking portal, but after a little reminder, all concerns and inquiries were handled satisfactorily. There is an emergency contact in case you need help, which works well (We needed it once to confirm a breakfast reservation that the hotel did not accommodate). The internal section of the booking area where you can manage your trips is a little confusing at first and sometimes has its problems, but that does not seem to be anything that an update cannot fix.
A big compliment to Guide to Iceland, as we had to cancel and reschedule our trip on short notice due to a Covid 19 infection! This was not a problem as the travel agency took care of everything so we were able to take our desired trip just two weeks later. Thank you so much for making this possible! The booked hotels were overall very satisfactory and varied in style, which we personally liked very much. To have more time for the beautiful landscapes, we booked only the breakfast option. All but one of the hotels and guesthouses offered a really good and rich breakfast. We were also very happy with the WiFi-equipped car and the support we received from the rental company when we had a flat tire.
All in all, we had a great time in Iceland and were very glad we booked the tour through Guide to Iceland. It makes everything so easy! The next trip is already planned ;-)
