'Top 10' players in the Round of 64
"No upsets"
Top players such as Choi Jong-woo and Kim Haeng-jik advanced to the round of 64 at the Namwon National Billiards Championships.
The round of 128 of the '2024 Namwon National Billiards Championships' concluded on Tuesday at the Namwon Sports Town Indoor Gymnasium in Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do, to determine the 64 participants.
As a result, all nine top-ranked players from No. 1 to No. 10 (No. 6 Jeong Ye-sung is serving in the military) passed the round of 128.
Korea's No. 1 player Cho Sung-woo (Seoul Metropolitan Government, Silk City Entity) defeated Cho Young-yoon (Seoul) 40:32 (38 innings) in a long game. Cho had a tough time winning, as he only had four high runs and was hit frequently. After taking an 8:3 lead through six innings, Choi was hit with seven high runs in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 8:10. After that, both players struggled to score, but Choi Sung-woo scored three more points in the 18th to tie the game again at 19:18. The game continued to play out in a frustrating fashion until Cho Young-yoon scored five points in the 26th to tie the game at 27:27. In the closing innings, Cho raised his pitch again, scoring five points in the 28th and 29th innings, three points in the 21st and 32nd innings, and one last point in the 38th inning to end the match.
Heo Jung-han (2nd, Gyeongnam), who had just won the Ankara 3 Cushion World Cup for the first time in seven and a half years, also defeated Kwon Ki-yong 40:21 (37 innings) in a prolonged battle. He took an 8:1 lead in the fifth inning and finished the 사설토토 first half with a double score (22:10) in the 17th inning. He continued to score steadily and finished the match in 37 innings.
Kim Haengjik (3rd, Jeonnam, Jindo-gun, South Jeolla Province, South Korea) used his double-digit averages (2.105) to defeat Jung Byung-hoon 40:16 (19 innings). Kim took a 20:8 lead into the break after nine games with a pair of six- and seven-point blasts. Kim continued his offense in the second half of the game, scoring more points and winning comfortably.
Cha Myung-jong (No. 4, Incheon City Sports Association) also advanced to the Round of 64 with a 40:31 (28) victory over Park Chul-woo (Gyeongnam) thanks to two long hits (8 and 10 points).
In addition, Kang Jae-in (5th, Chungnam Sports Federation), Kim Jun-tae (7th, Gyeongbuk Sports Federation), Choi Jae-yeon (8th, Ansan Sports Federation), Kim Jin-yeol (9th, Ansan Sports Federation), Choi Wan-young (10th, Gwangju), Ahn Ji-hoon (11th, Jeonbuk), Lee Jung-hee (12th, Siheung City Sports Federation), Jeong Yeok-geun (16th, Siheung), Kim Hyung-gon (17th, Seoul), Heo Jin-woo (18th, Gimpo), Jeong Yeon-chul (19. Daegu) Park Soo-young (20th, Gangwon), Seo Chang-hoon (21st, Siheung), Hwang Bong-joo (23rd, Siheung), and others also made it through the round of 128.
