Description

The Volcano Huts are a fantastic choice of accommodation in Iceland’s magnificent Highlands. Guests who want to experience this country’s nature at its most raw, either by staying in a cosy cottage, affordable dorm, private room or deluxe tent, will find no better option.

Location & Nearby

The Volcano Huts are located in Thorsmork, a spectacular valley and nature reserve on the cusp of the southern Icelandic highlands. Not only is the area filled with verdant forests and fields of lava, but it sits in the shadow of the subglacial volcano of Eyjafjallajokull, which notoriously erupted in 2010, and the third-largest ice cap in the country, Myrdalsjokull.

As such, hiking is incredibly popular in the area; there are many short treks that can be embarked on, such as one to Stakkholtsgja Canyon. It should be noted, however, that the Volcano Huts are also directly on two of the country’s most popular longer trails.

The Fimmvorduhals Trail can be done in part within a day and boasts some of the country’s newest volcanic craters and basalt formations. The Laugavegur Trek, meanwhile, is taken over several days, going through Iceland’s stunning interior to the geothermal wonderland of Landmannalaugar.

As can be gathered, those staying at the Volcano Huts can expect a total immersion into the remote landscapes of Iceland. If renting a car, however, you will still find more popular attractions easily within reach; the first major attraction of the South Coast, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, is less than an hour away, for example.

Facilities & Amenities

The Volcano Huts are the collective name for a range of accommodations offered at the same site at Thorsmork, allowing guests of different budgets and tastes to enjoy their marvellous location and welcoming, rustic ambience.

Glamping, for example, is an option for those who want to connect even deeper with nature; the deluxe double tents include a heater and are perfect for a romantic escape. Those seeking something affordable but indoors could instead book a bed in a 16-person dorm or a standard double room (which can sleep three). Alternatively, guests could book a standard cottage, which has two bunk beds (one of which has a double bed on its lower level), a kitchenette.

All bathroom facilities and showers are communal.

Those staying at the Volcano Huts are welcome to enjoy the geothermal hot tubs, pool and sauna on-site. There is also a delicious restaurant which offers meals throughout the day, and a bar to relax in each evening.

Why Choose Volcano Huts?

Guests who either wish to embark on spectacular highland hikes or else immerse themselves in untouched nature far off the beaten track will love their stay at the Volcano Huts. Book your deluxe tent, dorm bed, private room or cosy cottage now.
