Description

Hotel Geysir is a spectacularly located hotel, sitting right by the Geysir Geothermal Area on Iceland’s Golden Circle. Travellers who want modern, chic accommodation right by one of the county’s most iconic attractions should look no further than one of the hotel’s 77 rooms and suites.

Location & Nearby

Hotel Geysir is literally across the road from the Geysir Geothermal Area, one of the three sites of the world-famous Golden Circle sightseeing route. This place is a hotbed of geothermal activity, with many bubbling springs, steaming vents, and, of course, geysers. The most famous of these is Strokkur for its regular and monumental eruptions, which can be seen from the hotel’s restaurant.

Guests staying here will thus have very easy access to the other sites of the Golden Circle. The magnificent waterfall of Gullfoss is only ten minutes away, whereas Thingvellir National Park can be driven to in less than an hour. Though the hotel is about 90 minutes from Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, all amenities a traveller could need such as groceries and gas can be found at Fludir, which is 20 minutes down the road.

This village is also home to the mystical Secret Lagoon.

Facilities & Amenities

Hotel Geysir has 77 rooms and suites, all of which can accommodate two guests (although extras can fit in for an additional cost). Each one has an en suite bathroom with a shower; a modern, Icelandic design; comfy bedding; and access to free and fast Wifi.

The standard rooms are perfect for most travellers, covering 29 sqm; those who want a little more comfort, however, could book a 35sqm deluxe room. The Junior Suites, which are 58 sqm, have a bath, a sitting area and a balcony, whereas those seeking to spare no expense should book the Geysir Suite, which is a gargantuan 87 square metres and boasts even more space.

Guests will find five restaurants on-site where they can enjoy a range of locally-sourced dishes. For fine dining, the Geysir Restaurant and Geysir Glima Restaurant come most highly recommended, whereas those looking for something more simple can get fast food from the canteen Kantina or soup from Supa. Soup in the Forest is as much an experience as it is a restaurant, allowing groups who have organised it to dine out in Iceland’s beautiful nature.
