The harbour across the street is the departure point for whale watching trips in summer and for the year-round ferry to Grimsey Island, which sits on the Arctic Circle. The ferry to Hrisey Island leaves from Arskogssandur, about 7 miles (12 kilometers) south.
Dalvik is a good base for the Trollaskagi Peninsula, with its tunnels, fishing villages, and hiking trails.
