Guesthouse Hagi is a small, beautiful, family run guesthouse in Northern Iceland. Hagi was mentioned in the old Icelandic Sagas and is on the east side of Laxá, a famous salmon fishing river. They offer two types of accommodation: a cottage and a bed and breakfast in the farmhouse, and it is an ideal place to explore the northern region of the country.

Location and Nearby

The guesthouse is located in a quiet area but near all the tourist attractions in the Diamond Circle of Iceland. Within one hour drive you can reach the Lake Mývatn (36 km); Jökulsárgljúfur National Park (90 km) with Dettifoss Waterfall and the Ásbyrgi Canyon; and Húsavik (26 km), the whale watching capital of the north.

Hagi is very rich in birdlife and it can be interesting to go birdwatching in the area. There are also hiking routes that take you to old pseudocraters and a longer one down the Laxá river and onto the nesting area of several birds.

Nearby you can find the sheepfold Hraunsrétt, made of lava rocks; the Grenjaðarstaður Museum; and Laxárvirkjun, a hydropower station. You can also go horse riding in Garður, a horse rental farm only 5 minutes from Hagi; or to the swimming pool in Heiðarbær, about a 10 minute drive.

Facilities and Amenities

The cottage accommodation has one bedroom for two people, one sleeping loft with two beds, and one sleeping sofa for one person in the living room. The farmhouse accommodation is a traditional Icelandic home with two double rooms on the top floor and breakfast is included. It is possible to add mattresses for children under 12 in both options.
