Description

Combine two unforgettable Icelandic experiences into one day on this incredible combo tour; ride one of the nation's charming and sturdy horses and marvel at the three most iconic sites of the Golden Circle: Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir geothermal area, and the famous Thingvellir National Park.

Your adventure begins with being picked up from Reykjavík in the morning, near your accommodation, and heading straight to the farm of Vellir. Here, you will meet your horse-riding guide and your trustful Icelandic horse for the tour.

Icelandic horses are incredibly special animals. You’ll first notice that they are much smaller than most other horse breeds, but after a few minutes, you’ll see that that is the least interesting thing about them. They are also friendlier, smarter, and more curious than other horses, and riding them is an absolute delight, even for the inexperienced rider.

For up to two hours, you will travel with your group through the beautiful, lush landscape, with views over mountains and up to the ocean. The pace is kept nice and slow for beginners.

Following a mesmerizing ride, you will enjoy a fueling lunch before setting out on the Golden Circle. Your first stop on this popular trail is the Geysir geothermal area.

Here, you can see the active geyser named Strokkur erupt every 10 minutes to a height of up to 131 ft (40 m). The famous Geysir, which gives name to all the other geysers, can also be seen nearby, as can many other bubbling hot springs and steaming mud pits.

The next stop will be the beautiful ‘golden waterfall’, otherwise known as Gullfoss. Here, the glacial Hvita river pours down two tiers into a plunging valley, producing a steam that rises and creates a rainbow on sunny days.

When the ground is not too icy, it is possible to reach a viewing platform right where the water starts to drop, allowing you marvel over its awe-inspiring power.

The final site of the Golden Circle is Thingvellir National Park, known for its fascinating history and geology. The only UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Icelandic mainland, Thingvellir was the original site of the world’s longest-running, ongoing parliament, formed in 930 AD and now based in Reykjavik.

Thingvellir is also located in the rift valley that runs through the island, where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia meet in Iceland. In no other part of the country are the edges of these continents so obvious, and their presence has led to some incredible geological features.

Combined with the green forests, moss fields, and crystal clear rivers that cover the park, Thingvellir is home to some spectacular views.

Once you have made the most of the beautiful Golden Circle, you will return to Reykjavik in time to enjoy your evening in the small, vibrant capital.

Don't miss the chance to ride an impressive Icelandic horse, visit the famous Golden Circle, and enjoy this amazing combo tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
