Description

Explore the picturesque countryside near Reykjavik on this nine-hour horse-riding excursion, including transfers. Experienced horse riders keen to witness magnificent scenery and become acquainted with Iceland’s friendly and gentle horses should book this summer riding tour now.

Your nine-hour tour begins with a hotel pick-up. Transfers to the excursion’s start point begin at 07:45 from Hafnarfjordur, Mosfellsbaer, Kopavogur, or Seltjarnanres. Reykjavik pick-ups are between approximately 08:00 and 08:30.

The driver will take you to a horse farm near Reykjavik, ready for an exciting day. You’ll meet your riding guide and the horses joining you on today’s adventure. Icelandic horses are very approachable and known for their calm temperaments.

They’re also well-suited for traversing challenging terrain and can thrive in harsh environments. These gorgeous horses use two unique gaits, the tolt, and the flying pace, which your expert riding guide will introduce you to today.

This excursion is suitable for experienced participants who ride regularly. Riders aged 12 and above who can control a horse in all gaits across various terrain are welcome to join the tour. The riding portion of this excursion lasts between four and five hours, including stops, and covers around nine miles (15 kilometers).

After a briefing, it will be time to set off for a fantastic ride ahead. Today you’ll explore the Valley of Horses – Marardalur in the Hengill volcano area. This hidden valley is a former cattle storage site with excellent flat and grassy riding trails.

Marvel at the rugged cliffs towering overhead as you ride across the lush green grass. The scenery is superb, and you’ll have plenty of time to stop for photos and appreciate this magical setting.

Your excursion includes a lunch box with a sandwich, cookies, and a water bottle. When you stop for lunch, it’s a great chance to interact with the horses, listen to your guide talking about the area’s nature and culture, and bask in your scenic surroundings.

While riding, you can try the tolt, an ultra-smooth gait that’s somewhat like a fast walk but can vary in speed. You’ll love feeling yourself glide along while enjoying the stunning rural landscape.

After an unforgettable ride, you’ll return to the horse farm, where another treat awaits. Your group will have hot drinks and homemade cake before the driver takes you back to your accommodation. The expected arrival in Reykjavik is around 17:15.
