Enjoy the classic Icelandic experience of horseback riding through the stunning countryside of the nation’s verdant South. This hour-long tour is ideal for those who want to try out this activity, and those looking up to fill a small window of time while packing as much into their days as possible.

The excursion begins when you meet your guides at the stables just outside of Flúðir. Here, you will be provided with a riding helmet and overalls (if the weather demands it) before you will be introduced to your steed for the next hour.

Icelandic horses are delightful animals, very different to other breeds because of their thousand years of evolutionary isolation; no other horse has diluted the stock since the turn of the millennium.

Their short, sturdy stature and shaggy winter coats are the most notable things upon first glance, but after a moment, you will note they are curious, intelligent and sociable.

After introductions, you will mount up and set out on your adventure. Children as young as five are welcome to join, although those under seven will be led by a guide. You’ll be led out into the verdant nature of South Iceland, which is renowned for its beautiful countryside.

The journey will immerse you in stunning mountain and volcano views; you will get to experience a few of the gaits of the Icelandic horse. After an hour, you will return to the stables, hopefully grinning from the beautiful journey and the exciting and charming way in which you undertook it.

Don’t miss this short and sweet experience on Iceland’s favourite animal. Check availability by choosing a date.

Our tour guide was super friendly and understanding. She was extremely gently and patient to my young son which I'm very appreciate. The trail we walked had an amazing view, and the horses were super well behave. Definitely want to come back for a longer ride on my next visit!

The place was friendly and easy to find. Great adventure also for the two of us that had no experience in riding. We only had the 1 hour tour but want to come back and do a longer tour if we return to Iceland

Really enjoyed this riding trip. We got right on the horses and had a great trail ride on a gorgeous path. Our instructor was knowledgeable and adapted the trip to our level of riding.

That’s a great experience! I wanna try Icelandic horse for long and finally I did it! My guide is nice and caring. I came with my mom who knows nothing about horse riding and my guide always checking of mom’s condition even we just for a walk. At the end of the trip i can visit a bit the stable. A bit disappointed is couldn’t see a large amount of horses staying outside that i saw from other farms in internet. Yet, it’s a good place, nice horses and friendly guide.
