Look for wildlife in the waters just outside Reykjavik on this RIB speedboat tour. It suits travelers who want a fast boat ride as well as nature.
Your RIB speedboat waits for you at the Old Harbor in Reykjavik. It has 12 seats with suspension for comfort, and there is one guide for every 12 passengers, so the group stays small. Once everyone is on board, you set out into Faxafloi Bay.
Before you look for whales, dolphins, and birds, you pass close to some well-known sights in Reykjavik, including Harpa Concert Hall and the Sun Voyager, a sculpture on the waterfront.
Many of the whale species found around Iceland can be seen in Faxafloi Bay, as well as dolphins and seals.
The bay is also home to millions of seabirds, including puffins. Puffins lay their eggs on many of the islands in Faxafloi Bay, and you get close to some of them, including Lundey Island, whose name means Puffin Island.
The RIB speedboat is fast and quick to react, so you can get close to the whales quickly. To keep you comfortable, you wear a warm waterproof overall, a life jacket, and goggles.
Your guide answers your questions and tells you about the whales, the other wildlife, and the city. In clear weather, you also have views of Reykjavik, Hvalfjordur Fjord, the Reykjanes Peninsula, and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
At the end of the trip, you return to the Old Harbor. If you don't see any whales, another trip can be arranged for you.
