Description
Travel around Iceland on the Ring Road on this small-group minibus tour from Reykjavik, with a glacier hike, an ice cave tour, and a whale-watching tour included, plus 7 nights of accommodation with breakfast.
The tour starts on the Golden Circle, where you visit Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are drifting apart and where Iceland's first parliament was founded in 930 AD. You also see Bruarfoss Waterfall, known for its blue water, the Geysir Geothermal Area, where Strokkur Geyser erupts every 4 to 16 minutes, and Gullfoss Waterfall, which drops in two tiers into a deep canyon.
On the South Coast, you visit Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, which you can walk behind, Skogafoss Waterfall, and Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Farther east, you see the floating icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and the ice on the black sand of Diamond Beach.
On a guided glacier hike, you trek across the ice with crampons and all the safety gear provided. You also ride in a Super Jeep to a natural ice cave beneath the glacier.
After driving through the remote East Fjords, you head north to Akureyri, the "Capital of the North," and the Lake Myvatn area, with its geothermal sites and the lava pillars of Dimmuborgir Lava Fields. You also see Godafoss Waterfall, the "waterfall of the gods," and join a whale-watching boat tour.
The last part of the trip takes you to West Iceland and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, often called "Iceland in Miniature," where you see Kirkjufell Mountain.
Throughout the trip, your English-speaking guide shares insights into Icelandic geology, history, and folklore, and keeps an eye on the forecasts for the northern lights. The hotels are located away from light pollution to give you a better chance of seeing them.
