3 Day Arctic Fox & Midnight Sun Photography Tour of Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in the Westfjords
Description
Summary
Description
Spend three days in the remote nature of the Westfjords. This tour is perfect for those who love wildlife, adventure, and those who want to make the most of every moment of summer in Iceland.
On this tour, you'll be taken on a speedboat from Ísafjörður to Kvíar, an old farmhouse in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. Hornstrandir is the least populated part of Iceland, in terms of humans, at least. In terms of Arctic Foxes, however, there are more here than in any other part of the country. Due to the infrequency that they see people, they are fearless and thus perfect subjects for wildlife photography.
On each day on this tour, you will set out to explore the incredible region, not only making the most of the foxes, but also the rich birdlife, which includes white-tailed eagles, the marine life, with bountiful seas of whales and dolphins, and stunning landscapes.
All meals will be provided for you throughout the duration of the trip.
This is a unique and immersive adventure. Don't let the opportunity pass you by. Check availability by choosing a date.

Day 1 - Getting to Kviar
On the morning of day one, you will meet your guides and group in Ísafjörður, and board a speedboat to Kvíar farm in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. As soon as you arrive, you will eat lunch, then set out on your first hike.
This will take you through spectacular nature until you reach a nearby Arctic Fox den, where you will respectfully watch these little critters frolicking around. You'll then hike to a great vantage point to see the sun get lower and lower in the sky without ever setting.
You'll return to Kvíar for a homecooked dinner, then retire for the night.
Day 2 - Day in Hornstrandir
Today is your only full day in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, and your guides will help you to make the most of it. What you do, therefore, will depend on the conditions and your desires.
There are many awesome hiking routes that lead from Kvíar. The zodiac will also be with you, so you will be able to access hidden gems located a little bit further afield. You also have kayak guides with you, who can take you on a paddle to the head of the beautiful fjord in Lónafjörður.
This kayak route is highly recommended, as it will take you to a seal cove, where you are almost sure to see many of these lovely animals hauling out on the shore. The waters of the Westfjords are also bountiful enough to support a large whale and dolphin population, so you have a great chance of seeing species such as humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins and orcas.
After dinner, you'll have another hike to see the midnight sun reach its lowest point in the sky, before turning in for the night.
Day 3 - Heading Home
Following your two days and two nights in the remote and spectacular Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, it is time for your departure. In the morning, however, you will have time to have breakfast and appreciate the incredible landscapes one more time.
Once you are back in Ísafjörður, you are free to head off and explore more of the Westfjords.
