Description
Come along on an adventure on the East Jokulsa River, also known as "The Beast of the East." This challenging rafting tour suits travelers who want to add an adrenaline-pumping excursion to their vacation. No previous rafting experience is needed.
The East Jokulsa River flows from Hofsjokull Glacier, the third-largest glacier in Iceland, and runs through a deep canyon. It's one of the most remote single-day rafting trips in the world.
The tour starts at the rafting base at Hafgrimsstadir Farm in the Skagafjordur region of North Iceland. If you're traveling in the north, you can request transportation from Akureyri for an extra fee.
From the base, a vehicle takes you to the river, where you gear up. Your guide then teaches you about the raft and how to maneuver it through the rapids.
Then you board the raft and head down the river. The water soon turns white as you pass through gorges and canyons, with whitewater splashing as you maneuver the raft down steep drops and over turbulent water. The biggest rapid on the river is known as Green Room.
After the ride, you warm up by the river with light refreshments. You can also add a full meal when you book.
