Hike to Meradalir valley to see the fresh lava field from the recent eruption of Fagradalsfjall volcano. See the jagged and twisted patterns of the black solidified lava and make memories for a lifetime.
The guide will pick you up from Reykjavik and take you on a scenic drive through the moss-covered lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula to the volcano trailhead. Then you will begin your hike towards the volcano in Meradalir valley. The hike takes approximately 1-1.5 hours each way with an experienced guide.
You will be at the location for 3 to 4 hours. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the hike, look at the new lava rock formations, and take amazing photographs to show your friends and family.
Then you'll get to spend the rest of your day (5-6 hours) exploring the beautiful Reykjanes peninsula. Reykjanes is famous for its lunar-like landscape of lava fields and cone-shaped mountains. The eruption at Geldingadalur in 2021 was the first volcanic eruption in the region in 800 years. The most recent eruption started on August 3rd 2022 and lasted for three weeks.
The tour starts with a pickup at your accommodation in the Hvolsvollur area or in Reykjavik. Please keep in mind that pick-up in Reykjavik starts between 09:30 and 10:00 AM.
