The fun begins when you meet your musher guide at the dog sledding location near Mosfellsbaer, about 9 miles (15 km) north of Reykjavik. The location, however, can only be reached by a car, preferably a 4x4 vehicle, especially during winter.
Alternatively, you can arrange for a driver to pick you up from your Reykjavik accommodation. Mosfellsbaer is a town known for its stunning landscapes. It features vast open fields, snow-capped mountains, and serene forests, making a picturesque backdrop for your icy adventure.
At the dog sledding base, the guide will give a brief background about the tour. They will discuss the basics of dog sledding and safety reminders. You'll be equipped with all the necessary gear to ensure a safe, fun, and comfortable ride.
You may ride on a sled or a kart depending on the weather conditions. The sleds and karts can accommodate up to five/six persons.

The dog sledding ride takes about 35 minutes, which includes picture time with the furry animals mid-way through the ride. During this time, you may pet and cuddle the husky dogs and appreciate their beautiful fur. In addition, giving the dogs a belly rub has become a mandatory tradition you need to do.
At the end of the dog sledding ride, you'll head back to base, return the safety gear, and say goodbye to the adorable dogs. If you added a transfer during the booking process, a driver will take you back to your Reykjavik accommodation.
