Description

Join this two-hour whale and bird watching tour from Akureyri. This tour is for anyone who is eager to see north Iceland's spectacular wildlife.

Eyjafjörður, the fjord which Akureyri is nestled, is renowned for its wealth of Humpback Whales and Atlantic Puffins. This tour provides an incredible way to see them, on a RIB vessel that seats a maximum of twelve. This means no one will be blocking your views, you can have a personal relationship with your guide, and your experience with the animals will be very intimate.

You'll set out from Akureyri's harbour, surrounded by enormous flat-topped mountains. You can enjoy the sea-spray on your face and beautiful nature until the whales start to materialise.

Tours into Eyjafjörður have 99% success rates, so you will be incredibly unlucky if you don't see a single cetacean (whale, dolphin or porpoise). Even if this is the case, however, you'll be able to join another tour for free.

Humpback Whales are the most frequently seen species and renowned around the world for being the most entertaining in their surface behaviour. Humpbacks regularly breach clear of the water, and always raise their tails before a dive, creating fantastic photo opportunities. You may also see other marine mammals such as Blue Whales, White-Beaked Dolphins and Orcas.

Puffins nest around Eyjafjörður in their thousands, and, due to your closeness to the water in a RIB, you'll be able to make out details such as their colourful beaks and emotive eyes. They only come to Iceland from May to September, so don't miss your chance to see them.

After two hours on the sea, you'll be returned to Akureyri, and can use the rest of your day to either explore the Capital of the North further or for another tour.

See the animals of Iceland up close on this personal, exhilarating tour. Check availability by choosing a date.
