If you want to explore one glacier as much as you can, than this is the tour for you! On this 4,5-hour glacier adventure you will hike further into the glacier than most tours, right up into the icefall of Falljökull. If you want to experience an adventure that is going to be hard to forget, then Skaftafell Adventure Glacier Hike is your best choice.
Our meeting point is at Skaftafell Terminal Tour Center, where you will meet your glacier guide and also will be provided with all the glacier-hiking gear, harness, crampons and ice axe. After that comes a ride in our modified 4x4 Land Rover Defender truck towards the glacier. You will drive through breathtaking area that served as filming location for many blockbusters, such as “Batman Begins,” “Interstellar,” and the TV series “Game of Thrones.
To get all the way to the glacier we will have to drive over glacial moraine through rocky terrain that was previously shaped by the glacier until we get right to the foot of the glacier. Your guide will explain everything about the gear you will be using and also do a short safety briefing. After that you are ready to hike on the glacier!
We start our hike on the so called “glacier highway” the route for most of the short tours and continue further into the less crowded part. This is where your adventure starts. Your certified guide will lead you through part of the glacier with no fixed routes and walking through crystal water streams, icy blue pools, impressive ice formations you will approach the icefall of Falljökull.
Don’t forget to pack a light lunch, as we will take a small break on the glacier. You will also have plenty of time to take amazing pictures and also don’t hesitate to ask you guide more about the glacier or Iceland!
