Description

Set out on the Hvita river on a thrilling, family-friendly rafting adventure from Reykjavik by booking this incredible guided excursion. Families with children aged eight and over will enjoy this safe but adrenaline-pumping small-group tour.

This tour begins when you are picked up from the meeting point near your accommodation in Reykjavik. You'll meet your friendly guides and the rest of your group. This excursion is a small group tour, so you'll get plenty of expert guidance and be able to ask questions.

Your driver will take you through the beautiful countryside of South Iceland to the rafting base camp. This journey will take you through striking mountain and countryside scenery.

At Drumbo, the rafting guides will be ready to dress you in your life jacket, overalls, and helmet, give you an oar, and then lead you to the buses. These buses will take you on a short but fun trip down a bumpy, off-road trail to the Hvita river, where your rafts are waiting.

You'll then receive a briefing on operating the vessel before setting out onto the glacial river.

The Hvita river is a prominent waterway known for its powerful flow and striking natural beauty. Originating from the Langjokull glacier, it winds through Southwest Iceland, carving out canyons and valleys.

A key river highlight is the iconic Gullfoss waterfall, where the water cascades into a deep gorge in two impressive stages. The Hvita river plays a crucial role in Iceland's ecosystem, supporting diverse wildlife and contributing to the country's hydroelectric power generation.

This tour starts slightly further downriver than the standard excursion to make it safe for kids, but that doesn't mean the journey lacks adventure.

You'll spend time in choppy rapids, and everyone must work their oars to navigate around rocks and corners. The current will help you along, and much of the trip will be relaxing.

During these more serene moments, you'll be able to enjoy the lovely surrounding scenery. You'll pass through valleys with hexagonal basalt columns and have views over lava fields, countryside, and dramatic mountains.

After a great time on the river, you will bank the rafts and board the buses back to base camp. The fun does not stop here. You can have a shower here and then jump into the lovely sauna. There are few better ways to unwind and warm up after this adventure.

Once your group is ready, your driver will take you back to the meeting point in Reykjavik.

Enjoy a thrilling rafting voyage with the kids on this tour from Iceland's capital. Check availability now by choosing a date.
