Family River Fun Rafting on the Hvita River | Pick Up from Reykjavik

Set out on the Hvita river on a thrilling, family-friendly rafting adventure from Reykjavik! Families with children aged eight and over will enjoy this safe but adrenaline-pumping excursion.

This tour begins when you are picked up from the meeting point near your accommodation in Reykjavik. You’ll meet your friendly guides and the rest of your group, then be driven through the beautiful countryside of south Iceland to the base camp at Drumbo; this journey will take you through rural bliss and in view of many striking mountains.

At Drumbo, the rafting guides will be ready to dress you in your life jacket, overalls, and helmet, give you an oar, then lead you to the buses. These buses will take you on a short but fun trip down a bumpy, off-road trail to Hvita, where your rafts are waiting. You’ll then receive a short briefing on how to operate the vessel before setting out onto the glacial river.

This tour starts slightly further downriver than the standard excursion to make it safe for kids, but that doesn’t mean the journey lacks adventure; moments will be spent in choppy rapids, and everyone will have to work their oars to navigate around rocks and corners! Still, a current will help you along, and much of the trip will be very relaxing.

During these more serene moments, you’ll be able to enjoy the lovely surrounding scenery. You’ll pass through valleys with strange hexagonal columns and have views over lava fields, countryside, and dramatic mountains. 

After a great time on the river, you will bank the rafts and board busses back to Drumbo. The fun does not stop here, however; after showering, you can jump into the lovely sauna. There are few better ways to unwind and warm up after this adventure!

Once your group is ready, you’ll make your way back to Reykjavik; no doubt, all the family will still be exhilarated after their great trip.
