See the lava fields left by the newest eruptions in Iceland on a guided hike on the Reykjanes Peninsula, then end your day with a soak in the geothermal water of the Blue Lagoon. This tour combines two sides of the volcanic power of Iceland in one day.
Your trip begins when your guide picks you up in Reykjavik. Once your group has been collected, you set off toward the Reykjanes Peninsula.
The drive takes you across a region that eruptions have shaped for thousands of years, with dormant volcanoes and fields of jagged lava covered in gray moss.
As you drive, your guide tells you about the volcanic activity of the area, life in Iceland, and the folklore of the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Near the eruption area, you leave the bus and start your hike through the eruption areas of Fagradalsfjall Volcano and Meradalir Valley, where the landscape still bears the marks of recent volcanic activity.
The hike goes over rough terrain, so wear your best hiking shoes. Along the way, you see wide fields of black solidified lava and have views of the Sundhnukur Crater Row and the Litli-Hrutur area.
After exploring and photographing the lava fields, you hike back to the bus and head to the Blue Lagoon to relax after your day outdoors.
The Blue Lagoon is heated by the same geothermal forces that cause the eruptions. Its warm, mineral-rich water is a vivid blue, and you can try a silica mud mask. You can also buy skincare products at the gift shop.
Once you are rested, you are driven back to Reykjavik.
