Description

Discover all five gaits of the Icelandic horse on this private riding tour in Skagafjordur, Northwest Iceland. The tour is designed for experienced riders and experts with good riding skills.

The Icelandic horse is the only horse breed in the world with five different gaits: walk, trot, gallop, tolt, and pace. The tolt is a smooth, four-beat gait.

The tour starts at the riding office in Varmahlid, a village on the Ring Road (Route 1) in Skagafjordur. Here, you meet your riding instructor, who leads you through the session.

The tour takes place at the Vindheimamelar show grounds and the surrounding area, with a balance of practice in the arena and trail riding in the countryside.

You ride 2 or 3 different horses during the tour, so you can discover the full potential of the five-gaited Icelandic horse.

As this is a private tour, your instructor's attention is dedicated to you and your group.

At the end of the tour, you return the horses and riding equipment.

Meet at the riding office in Varmahlid 15 minutes before departure.

Good riding skills are needed.

The minimum age is 14.

Each private tour takes 1 to 3 participants.

The weight limit is 220 pounds (100 kilograms).

The instructor speaks English and German.

You can't ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Pregnant women ride at their own risk.

Summer temperatures range from freezing to 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius).

Helmets are required. If you'd like to wear a wool hat or headband, make sure it's thin enough to fit under the helmet.

If you bring your own riding clothes and boots, they must be disinfected before you arrive. Icelandic law prohibits bringing used riding gear, such as saddles and bridles, or used leather riding boots, leather riding wear, or riding gloves into the country.

Riding clothes, rubber riding boots, and other gear must be machine-washed at 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) or higher or dry-cleaned, and disinfected with Virkon S.

Personal insurance is strongly recommended.
