Discover Solheimajokull | Hiking Day Tour (Small Groups)

Sólheimajökull Glacier is actually an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, as well as the source of the river Jökulsá á Sólheimasandi.
Going on a glacier hike is one of the most ultimate and authentic Icelandic experiences you can have during your stay in the land of ice and fire.
Since this tour is a small group experience, get ready to feel alone in the world when on top of Sólheimajökull's seemingly infinite ice sheet.
All glacier hikes in Iceland provide their guests with special ice crampons to attach to their hiking boots to make the icy ascend possible.
When hiking up a glacier such as Sólheimajökull, remember to pack your camera to capture the wonder-world of ice that awaits you.
The ice on Sólheimajökull Glacier functions like a big mirror for the sun, making the scenery all the more bright and lucid.

Feel the freeze with this easy hike on Solheimajökull icecap glacier and explore the incredible beauty of this country's unique nature. This is the perfect tour opportunity for travellers to Iceland looking to get up close and personal with the fantastic nature found under the Arctic Circle.

Upon arrival to the glacier, you will meet your certified glacier guide. The tour will start with an introduction to the equipment and safety rules necessary for a safe exploration of the glacier.

You will follow your guide for a short walk across pitch-black, volcanic ash, making your way one step at a time towards the ice cap. This will be done in a small group (maximum 12 people per guide), ensuring a more personalized experience.

As you walk through this incredible valley, your guide is likely to point out the fact that, only a few years ago, this very spot was once covered by the glacier. It is important to take notice here that Iceland's glaciers are receding rapidly, and one day might not be accessible to visitors.

At the glacier edge, you'll lace up your crampons and follow the guide out onto the ice. Here, you will discover the otherworldly frozen paradise called Sólheimajokull Glacier. During your time exploring the ice cap, you will see how primal elements have shaped the glacier, creating labyrinths of ice ridges, crevasses, sinkholes and pale blue moulins.

The duration of the tour is approximately 2.5 - 3 hours with about 1.5 hours on the actual ice. From your position atop the glacier, you will also be privy to incredible panoramic views of South Iceland. Make sure not to forget your camera!

So what are you waiting for? Hurry now and you too can experience the joys of Iceland's giant ice caps, hiking the incredible Solheimajokull glacier in South Iceland. Check availability by choosing a date.

Zeki made the tour very enjoyable, sharing his own stories and experiences and his love for what he does. We would highly recommend this tour, a great price and a great way to experience such a natural phenomenon!
