Description

Embark on a private 5-hour tour combining the enchantment of ice-caving and glacier hiking with a professional photoshoot at Vatnajokull National Park. Ideal for adventurers and photography enthusiasts, this tour from Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is an exclusive opportunity to explore Iceland's winter wonders.

Your adventure starts at the glacier lagoon parking lot in Vatnajokull National Park, where you'll meet your certified glacier guide and professional photographer. Given the 236-mile (380-kilometer) distance from Reykjavik, staying at an accommodation closer to this meeting point is advisable for convenience. You can add transport from Reykjavik when booking if required.

Arriving 15 minutes early is recommended, as the glacier has no restroom facilities. Your guide will be waiting near the bus parking lot across from the restrooms.

From there, you'll board a 4x4 vehicle, beginning your journey towards the glacier. About 10 minutes into the ride, you'll venture onto an F-Road for a bumpy yet scenic drive toward the glacier, which takes about 20-30 minutes.

During this drive, your guide will share fascinating insights into the history and geology of the surrounding areas, enhancing your experience with stories and facts as you pass through an ancient glacier plain.

Upon reaching the glacier parking lot, your guide will give you all the necessary hiking equipment. The gear includes crampons, an ice axe, a harness, and a helmet with a headlamp.

The 30-minute hike to the glacier's edge is a manageable walk for most, featuring flat, slightly rocky terrain. Your guide will walk at your pace, allowing you to soak in the views as you trek.

As you approach the glacier's edge, the stunning Crystal Ice Cave, also known as the Sapphire Ice Cave, comes into view. This cave is a dynamic and ever-changing structure, melting and reforming naturally each summer, ensuring each visit is a unique experience.

Before entering the cave, your guide will assist you in putting on your crampons. They will also provide a safety briefing about walking on the glacier and exploring the cave.

Inside the ice cave, you'll be mesmerized by the crystal blue walls and the play of light, creating a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere. Your guide, doubling as a professional photographer, will capture you in this magnificent setting, finding the best angles and locations to photograph.

The ice cave exploration lasts for about an hour, during which you'll learn about its formation and have the opportunity to explore its various chambers.

Next, you'll step onto the Breidamerkurjokull glacier, experiencing the sensation of hiking on ice. The crunch beneath your crampons, the vast icy expanse, and the sight of moulins and deep glacial holes create a sense of being in a different world.

The highlight is discovering the crystal crevasses. As you venture deeper, these deep, icy labyrinths get increasingly blue, offering a breathtaking experience.

After about an hour of exploring the crevasse formations, you'll hike back to the parking lot and drive back to the glacier lagoon parking lot. Here, you'll part ways with your guide, holding onto memories of a day filled with extraordinary sights and experiences in Vatnajokull National Park.

The tour includes a 15-shot photo package per person (10 photos for children), ensuring you have stunning souvenirs of your adventure. All images will be sent to you within 14 days via a downloadable gallery.
