Join this fantastic sightseeing tour along Iceland's gorgeous south coast, with stops at the country's largest glacier, Vatnajökull, as well as Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, the "Crown Jewel of Iceland". This is the perfect tour opportunity for guests who would like to see two of the country's biggest natural highlights in a single day.
You will begin this tour with a scenic drive along the picturesque south coast, towards Europe’s largest glacier Vatnajökull. Vatnajökull covers more than 8 percent of the country, 8,100 km2 (3,100 square miles) in total—roughly the size of US State, Delaware!
After your drive along the south coast, you'll arrive at Vatnajökull National Park. You can truly feel the dominant influence of Mother Nature in these parts, a feeling that becomes more forceful at the large glacial lake, Jökulsárlón, found on the southeast corner of Vatnajökull National Park.
This extraordinary lagoon started to develop after Breiðamerkurjökull glacier started receding around the 1930’s. The lagoon has grown since then at varying rates on account of melting glaciers.
The lagoon is a must see with its peacefully floating icebergs and beautiful mountain ridges in the background. This tour provides perfect photographing opportunities and once in a while, curious seals pop their head up from the lagoon! Please note that if you wish to go for a boat ride on the lagoon, you need to book it in advance so the trip may be altered accordingly.
Vatnajökull National Park is pretty isolated with the next village about one and a half hour drive away and many amazing features to explore, including the famous Diamond Beach, Fjallsárjökull glacier and Skaftafell Nature Reserve.
So what are you waiting for? Don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness some of the most beautiful attractions found along Iceland's South Coast! Check availability by choosing a date.
