Amazing 4.5-Hour Glacier Hiking Tour in Vatnajokull with Super Jeep from Jokulsarlon Lagoon
Description
Summary
Description
Take your Icelandic trip to the next level by exploring the frozen wilderness of the Vatnajokull ice cap on this glacier hiking tour. Thrill-seekers who want to experience an adventure across diverse landscapes, away from tourist crowds, should book a spot on this tour now.
The small group tour begins as you meet your experienced guide at the ticket sale area of Jokulsarlon lagoon, just next to the cafeteria. This excursion doesn’t include a pick-up from Reykjavik, so you have to arrange your transportation before the day of your hike.
The real adventure kicks off as you travel to your icy destination at the Breidamerkurjokull glacier tongue aboard a super jeep. Before stepping foot on the glacier, you will get a taste of an adventurous ride while seeing the expanse of snow and ice sheets around you. The trip usually takes half an hour.
Breidamerkurjokull is an outlet glacier of the Vatnajokull ice cap, the largest glacier in Iceland. Unknown to some people, this outlet glacier created two of the top attractions of the South Coast of Iceland, the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach.
As the ice on Breidamerkurjokull began to melt and recede in 1934, meltwater and icebergs started forming the lagoon. On this small group tour, you will have the opportunity to see the glacier wall that connects to the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.
Once you reach your destination and before setting foot on the ice, the guide will provide you with all the necessary equipment for fun and safe glacier hiking. Included here are crampons, helmets, and an ice axe. You will also get a demonstration and assistance on how to walk on ice, so even first-timers are welcome to join.
As you explore the Breidamerkurjokull glacier, you will have a great view of the surrounding landscapes and an unforgettable glacier walking experience on its terrain. The frozen landscapes of the glacial tongue are fascinating, with a mix of crevasses, moulins, ice walls, and primarily flat ice.
While enjoying and taking in the panoramic views, snap some photos because glaciers are ever-changing. These landscapes are changing with the constant freezing and melting of ice. Likewise, you may ask your guide about the attraction’s history to complete your glacier journey.
After nearly three hours of walking atop the massive ice cap, covering around four to five miles (six to eight kilometers) of the trail, your small group will return to the Jokulsarlon cafeteria.
Don’t miss the exciting opportunity to walk across the glacier that created the Jokulsarlon lagoon on this glacier hiking and super jeep tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
