Description

Discover the many wonders of Iceland's most famous scenic route and explore one of its largest ice caps in this thrilling Golden Circle and glacier adventure from Reykjavik. This 11-hour adventure takes travelers to iconic attractions along the Golden Circle before riding a big red monster truck to visit the Langjokull glacier.

The day begins when your friendly guide picks you up from your Reykjavik hotel or a designated bus stop within the capital. You'll then ride a comfortable bus to some of the Golden Circle's iconic spots, starting with Thingvellir National Park.

Located around 27 miles (44 kilometers) from Reykjavik, Thingvellir National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site representing natural beauty and historical importance. Geologically, the park sits atop the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. You'll see its rugged but beautiful landscape, dotted with volcanic rock formations and crystal-clear lakes.

The park is home to the Silfra fissure, which opened in 1789 after movements from the park's tectonic plates. The fissure boasts crystal-clear visibility, reaching over 300 feet (100 meters).

Historically, the Thingvellir National Park is where the Althingi, Iceland's first parliament, was established in 930 AD. While exploring Thingvellir National Park, your guide will share stories about the area's rich history.

Next, you'll head to the Geysir geothermal area at Haukadalur Valley, where you'll find the Great Geysir and Strokkur, two of Iceland's most celebrated geothermal wonders. The Great Geysir is a hot spring that used to erupt with remarkable consistency. Its eruptions have become irregular in recent years, which led to Strokkur becoming the more popular geyser between the two.

Strokkur features intermittent eruptions of hot water with remarkable predictability. Strokkur erupts approximately every five to 10 minutes, with its boiling water reaching as high as 30 meters.

After spending time at the Geysir geothermal area, your guide will take you to Gullfoss, one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls. Often referred to as the "Golden Falls," Gullfoss represents Iceland's raw power and beauty. Gullfoss waterfall cascades down a series of two tiers, plummeting into a narrow canyon with great force.

Its first cascade measures 36 feet (11 meters) tall, while the second drop is around 69 feet (21 meters). As you watch the Gullfoss waterfall cascade, look for the golden hues and rainbows dancing in the spray or mist.

After taking enough pictures at the Gullfoss waterfall, you'll transfer to the monster truck base and begin your three to four-hour journey toward the Langjokull glacier. Measuring an impressive 361 square miles (935 square kilometers), Langjokull is Iceland's second-largest glacier.

During the drive to the Langjokull glacier, you'll see various amazing sights at every turn. The great thing about riding the monster glacier truck is that you can smoothly and safely navigate through the challenging route. Much like during your time at the Thingvellir National Park, your guide will share valuable information about the glacier's history and folklore.

The Langjokull glacier offers excellent opportunities for taking photos that will immortalize your visit to Iceland. Upon reaching the glacier, you'll get majestic views of Iceland's rugged landscapes and dynamic geological features. On clear days, you can see the distant peaks of neighboring glaciers, such as Hofsjokull and Eiriksjokull.

You can also sled down the hill or play glacier golf with your friends or children. If you get tired, get a refreshing drink from the glacier's fresh water. You can also relax and appreciate the glacier's beauty while sipping a cup of hot cocoa, tea, or coffee. In addition, you'll get to taste some Icelandic pastry and a shot of Jokla liqueur on the side.

After a thrilling exploration of the Golden Circle and Langjokull glacier, you'll return to the meeting point at Gullfoss waterfall for your ride back to Reykjavik.

Don't miss this chance to see Iceland's natural beauty in this 11-hour Golden Circle and Langjokull glacier adventure. Check availability now by choosing a date.
