Description

Answer the call of adventure on this Westfjords tour featuring Dynjandi Waterfall sightseeing and a hike on Mount Lomfell. This 7-hour tour in Iceland is perfect for adventurers who want a guided Westfjords hiking and sightseeing experience.

On this Westfjords day tour, travel is easy and stress-free. An expert guide handles the rugged roads and navigation, while you enjoy the scenery in one of Iceland’s most remote regions. Your guide will pick you up at the Sjoferdir Terminal or Isafjordur Airport before you set off on a scenic drive toward the day’s highlights.

The first stop is Dynjandi Waterfall,  the “Jewel of the Westfjords.” This multi-tiered giant drops about 328 feet (100 meters) in a wide bridal-veil shape that drapes over the cliffs.

Below it, six smaller waterfalls tumble down the mountainside, and the roar of the water lives up to the Icelandic name Dynjandi, meaning “resounding.” A rocky path leads up the hillside past each tier. The constant mist can make it slippery, so sturdy hiking shoes are recommended.

If you prefer to stay on level ground, the lower viewpoint is accessible and still delivers fantastic views. Restrooms are available near the parking area.

As you walk the trail, feel the cool spray and look out over Arnarfjordur. It’s one of Iceland’s longest fjords at roughly 19 miles (30 kilometers), and mirrors the jagged ridgelines on clear days.

From Dynjandi, a 13.6-mile (22-kilometer) drive brings you to the Lomfell trailhead. This out-and-back hike takes about 3.5 hours over rocky terrain to an elevation of around 1,200 feet (365 meters).

It’s a moderate climb with big rewards: a 360-degree panorama of fjords and valleys that shows off the raw scale and quiet beauty of the Westfjords. On clear days, you can even spot tiny villages dotting the coastline far below.

After the hike, you can choose to wrap up your Westfjords tour and head back or go on another mini-adventure.

If your group has an extra two hours to spare, you can choose to end the day with a relaxing soak in a natural Westfjords hot spring, a great way to relax after your hike. This stop is completely optional and only added if everyone wants it.

Once you’ve had your fill of adventure, enjoy the scenic drive back to Isafjordur with your camera full and your legs happily tired.

Enjoy an adventurous day in Iceland’s rugged west on this Westfjords tour that combines Dynjandi sightseeing with a hike on Lomfell Mountain. Check availability now by choosing a date.

Good to know

The Westfjords is a remote region with only a handful of shops and restaurants along the way, so it’s best to bring your own lunch, snacks, and any essentials you might need for the day.

The Mount Lomfell hike takes around 3 hours and is considered moderately difficult. While the trail is manageable for most travelers, it does involve steady uphill walking on uneven rocky ground, so wearing sturdy shoes and being prepared with water and layers will make your experience much more comfortable.
