Description

Make the most of your time in North Iceland by joining this combination whale watching and river snorkeling tour with local guides. If you want to see the gentle giants of the ocean and explore the underwater world of a beautiful river, don't hesitate to book this six-hour excursion today.

Your adventure begins in the picturesque harbor of Husavik, known as the whale-watching capital of Iceland. Here, you'll board a specially designed whale watching boat with a friendly crew and a knowledgeable local guide.

The bay surrounding Husavik, Skjalfandi, is one of the best places in the world to observe whales in their natural habitat. During your three-hour sailing, you'll have the opportunity to encounter a variety of aquatic animals, including the mighty humpback whales, graceful minke whales, and playful white-beaked dolphins.

While spotting the whales, your experienced guide will provide fascinating insights into these incredible creatures, sharing their knowledge of their behavior, diet, and migration patterns.

In addition to the marine mammals, the surrounding mountains and curious seabirds will add more excitement to your boat tour.

After your exhilarating encounter with whales and seabirds, it's time to embark on the second leg of your adventure. Located just 40 minutes from Husavik, the Litlaa river is a shallow and pristine waterway offering a unique snorkeling experience.

Your diving guide will meet you at the river base near the Keldunes farm, where you'll receive a short briefing and all the necessary snorkeling equipment, including a drysuit and mask. If you have any queries about the adventure, feel free to ask your certified guide.

The Litlaa river, sometimes called the Spring Lagoon, is a natural wonder with a slightly warmer temperature than other rivers in Iceland. It usually maintains 53 to 62 F (12 to 17 C), thanks to the geothermal activity in the area. This unusual phenomenon creates an inviting environment for snorkelers.

As you go underwater, you'll see volcanic sands and multicolored sediments with patterns along the riverbed. These patterns are created by the heated water erupting from beneath the river's floor. This unique phenomenon is commonly described as "bubbling sands."

As you glide along the river's surface, you'll also encounter lush fields of green algae, snails, and schools of trout. This vegetation and diverse wildlife will give you a glimpse of the captivating ecosystem that thrives in the area.

With approximately 30 to 45 minutes of snorkeling in the Litlaa river, you'll have ample time to immerse yourself in the stunning underwater world of Iceland. It's a must-do activity for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

After your snorkeling experience, your guide will give you cookies and a hot chocolate to warm up. Afterward, you can bid farewell to everyone and continue your exploration of North Iceland.

Join this remarkable tour in North Iceland that combines the thrill of whale watching in Husavik and the unique experience of snorkeling in the Litlaa river. Check availability now by choosing a date.
