4 Hour Into the Glacier Experience with Glacier Hiking & Ice Caving with Transfer from Skaftafell
Description
Summary
Description
Ice caves are truly unique formations that are impossible to find anywhere else but in a glacier. This tour will allow you to combine a glacier hike and an ice cave visit into one, making the most of your limited time in Iceland. This is a real adventure into awe-inspiring formations of ice.
Your glacier guide is highly qualified and experienced and will make sure that your safety is always the main priority. All the necessary glacier gear needed for this tour will be provided.
The meeting point for this tour is in Skaftafell National Park, a 5-hour drive from Reykjavík. Since there are only very few buses available we recommend this tour for guests with a rental car only. We also recommend that you stay one night in the area around Skaftafell, so you don't have to drive back to Reykjavík in the dark after our glacier tour.
After leaving Skaftafell, we will drive towards our glacier for about 20 minutes. We will set off towards Falljökull glacier tongue through amazing landscapes, shaped by glacial forces over the centuries. Our skilled guides will give you an introduction to the fascinating geology of the area and tell you about the ever-moving and changing glaciers.
Once geared up, you will step foot on the glacier. You will need crampons, harnesses, helmets and ice axes. Make sure to take your camera to catch these moments! You will hike upon the glacier tongue until you reach the ice cave. Both the glacier and ice caves are unique and different every day. You will have plenty of time to take pictures inside the ice cave. Ice caves are only accessible in winter once the temperatures drop reliable below freezing, around zero degrees. Each year new ice caves are formed, and you will visit the ones most accessible on that particular day, based on the conditions. Please be gentle with the ice caves and treat these incredible natural phenomena with respect.
You will leave the glacier behind after having spent about 1.5-2 hours on the glacier, including the ice cave visit. We are sure that you will have plenty of amazing pictures from this adventure.
For important safety reasons, it is not allowed to visit ice caves without certified glacier guides.
