Description
Explore the beautiful views from Landmannalaugar in the Icelandic Highlands by booking this thrilling five-hour hiking and hot spring bathing tour. Adventure lovers who wish to experience the nature of Iceland and be active should book this exciting tour now.
You can meet your tour guide in Landmannalaugar, where the excursion begins. If you start in Landmannalaugar, you'll need an F-road-capable 4x4 jeep to navigate the rough Highland roads.
Otherwise, opt for pick-up from Reykjavik. If you're traveling to and from Reykjavik, your driver will pick you up early in the morning, and you'll need to allow 14 hours for the complete trip, including the hike, hot spring bathing, and drive.
The Selfoss N1 gas station and the Hella bus stop are your other alternative pick-up and drop-off options.
The hike starts from the main hut. The first major landmark you'll experience is the Laugahraun lava field, famous for the black rock left over from a 15th-century volcanic eruption. Next, you'll pass through the Vondugil canyon, carved from caramel-colored stone. The hike culminates in a climb up the slope of Mount Brennisteinsalda.
On your way up, marvel at the geothermal vents as they produce the billowing clouds of vapor that give this land its iconic, fantasy-like landscape. Also, see the spectacular rainbow-colored sulphuric rocks that give mount Brennistensalda its alternative name, the "Sulphur Wave."
The hiking route down goes through the Graenagil gorge. The locals call it the Green Gorge for the color of the rhyolite stone that dominates the area.
If conditions are good, the tour group will hike up Blahnukur volcano, called the "Blue Peak," due to the volcanic ash and lava flows covering its sides. Once at the top, enjoy the gorgeous views, where five glaciers are visible.
The tour ends with a soak in one of the geothermal hot pools that give Landmannalaugar its name, which translates to "People's Pools" in Icelandic. These geothermal springs are a great place to relax tired muscles at the end of a long hike. The fantastic panoramic view is the perfect end to a day spent in the geothermal wilds.
The walk takes around four hours and covers approximately five to six miles (eight to 10 kilometers). Participants require a moderate fitness level and should be ten years or older. After the hiking and hot spring bathing, your driver will take you back to Reykjavik if you have added the transport option.
If you are a fan of highland hiking and hot spring bathing surrounded by the beautiful views of the Icelandic Highlands, visit Landmannalaugar and experience one of South Iceland's most thrilling tours. Check availability now by choosing a date.
