5-Hour Hiking and Hot Springs Tour of Landmannalaugar

Hike through the colorful rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar in the Icelandic Highlands and finish with a soak in a natural hot spring on this guided day tour. You can meet the group in Landmannalaugar or add transportation from Reykjavik.

Landmannalaugar is a geothermal area in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve and the starting point of the Laugavegur Trail, one of the best-known hiking routes in Iceland.

If you add transportation, you travel from Reykjavik on a highland bus, with further pickup points at the N1 gas station in Selfoss and the bus stop in Hella. On the way, you make a short restroom stop at a roadside shop.

The hike starts at the Landmannalaugar campsite and follows easy, scenic mountain trails. You first cross the Laugahraun Lava Field and then pass through Vondugil Canyon.

Next, you climb Brennisteinsalda Mountain, a multicolored peak whose name means "sulfur wave."

You then walk down through Graenagil Gorge, known as the Green Gorge for the green rhyolite that dominates the area.

At the end of the hike, you can soak in the natural hot pool near the Laugahraun Lava Field. The name Landmannalaugar means "the people's pools."

If you joined from Reykjavik, you then board the bus back to the city.
