Travel from Hvolsvollur Village in South Iceland to Thorsmork Valley on this one-way highland bus transfer.
From Hvolsvollur, the bus heads into the highlands on roads with river crossings.
You arrive at Basar at about 11:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m., and at Langidalur at about 11:15 a.m. or 4:15 p.m. Your ticket is valid for either stop. From here, you can explore Thorsmork on your own or join a tour you've booked separately.
Thorsmork, whose name means "Thor's Forest," is a nature reserve known for its birch woods, deep valleys, and fast-flowing glacial rivers, with glaciers on three sides. The Krossa River runs through the area, with Langidalur to its north and Basar to its south, below Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers.
Langidalur is the start or end point of the Laugavegur Trail, one of Iceland's most popular long-distance hikes. From Basar, the Fimmvorduhals Trail crosses a 3,280-foot (1,000-meter) pass to Skogar Village.
The weather in Thorsmork can change quickly, with rain, wind, and sunshine on the same day, so bring the right gear.
