Marvel over Iceland’s most adorable creature on this affordable and rewarding puffin-watching tour. This trip leaves multiple times a day from Reykjavík throughout summer and lasts just an hour, so is perfect to fit around other plans.

You will board your puffin-watching boat from Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, which is right beside the downtown area, and zip straight out onto the ocean. Your vessel has been doing this for seventeen years and is perfectly adapted for getting as close to the puffins as possible. Two islands just off the coast of the capital, Lundey and Akurey, are havens for these adorable little birds, and they take just fifteen minutes to reach.

You will visit whichever island is most convenient based on the weather. Both are very similar, however: picturesque, with rocky shores, little hills, and thousands upon thousands of birds. While puffins are, of course, the highlight of this trip, other species may peak your interest; Northern Fulmars, Arctic Terns, and Black Guillemots are all regularly seen.

Your boat will work hard not to disturb the birds, but you will soon see that the puffins are well accustomed to being watched, and do not frighten easily. You can thus observe them knowing that the impact you are having on their nesting and feeding is absolutely minimal. You will be surprised how close you can get to them, and the binoculars on board allow your experience to be even more personal.

There is an expert on Iceland’s birdlife on board with you, who will tell you about the puffins, other species, and the surrounding nature. They are, of course, more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

After spending half hour or so at either Lundey or Akurey, you will return to Reykjavík harbour, having had an excellent experience that barely scratched into your valuable time in this country.

Enjoy Iceland’s cutest creature, on this affordable, convenient, and wonderful tour. Check availability by choosing a date.

Super friendly and informative boat trip out to see the Puffins. Our guide knew what she was talking about and did a great job telling us about the Puffins, as well as informing us in a fun way about how the tour would progress (When we are moving fast you may want to stay inside to stay dry etc).

The puffin tour was not too short, not too long, very informative and lots of fun. It was quite relaxing on the boat as well, but exciting when we got to the puffins. The puffins are smaller than you'd expect, but still incredible to watch. Would recommend this tour for anyone.

We had a wonderful week in Iceland. Loved the Blue Lagoon, the Golden Circle, and a two-day tour of the South Coast. All tours had been arranged by Guide to Iceland and were a perfect fit for us. I was disappointed in the trip to see the puffins. We saw just a few flying but none on land.

I saw so many puffins! Some were flying with fish, some sitting on the water and hanging out on Lundey island. We had an expert captain and a wonderful guide who told many Icelandic tales. Special Tours and Wildlife Adventures were so nice to rebook my trip and arrange pickup and dropoff for me because I missed the first booking. I highly recommend this tour as well as the tour operator.

Saw soooo many Puffins! And Arctic Terns. The tour was well organised, we were able to get close enough to the Puffins but it helped taking my binoculars - they also had some to borrow on board. A few less people on the boat would have made it more comfortable but that is the case with most tours. Icelandic captain and tour guide who knew the area well and had Icelandic tales to tell. Overall a great experience for a great price - thank you!!

Although I didn't get to see the puffins closely, it was still great fun watching them from a distance with binoculars. The puffins were cute and the tour guide did a great job explaining their habits.
