Ride a RIB speedboat along the coast of East Iceland in search of Atlantic puffins and other wildlife on this 1-hour boat tour.
For many bird lovers, seeing the Atlantic puffin is a highlight of a trip to Iceland. This seabird has black-and-white plumage, orange feet, and a colorful beak.
The Atlantic puffin spends most of its life at sea and comes to Iceland in summer to breed. Borgarfjordur Eystri Village, in East Iceland, is known as the Puffin Capital of Iceland.
Iceland is home to one of the largest puffin populations in the world, thanks to its rocky sea cliffs, which make good breeding grounds.
This tour takes you out on a rigid inflatable boat, or RIB, so that you can see the puffins up close.
Before you set off, you get a briefing and put on your safety gear.
The RIB takes you to the base of the sea cliffs and into small coves and rock formations that you can't reach on foot. The puffins nest on these cliffs, and you can watch them nesting and diving.
Along the way, you may see other seabirds, and you keep a lookout for seals, dolphins, and whales.
After the tour, you can visit the viewing platforms at the Puffin Marina to see the colony from above at your own pace.
