Embark on a captivating journey through North Iceland on horseback, perfect for novice riders and equestrian enthusiasts. Travelers keen to immerse themselves in the spectacular beauty of rivers, mountains, meadows, and waterfalls while enjoying the company of a friendly Icelandic horse should book this 3-hour riding tour now.

The tour departs from the operator's base in North Iceland, conveniently located next to the Ring Road and approximately 15.7 miles (25.3 kilometers) south of Saudarkrokur. You'll meet your experienced tour guide and the horse you'll ride for today's excursion at the tour's start point.

The tour is suitable for intermediate-level riders. Some experience is required because you'll cross several rivers. Children as young as eight with sufficient riding experience can join the tour.

Your trusty companion for this tour, the Icelandic horse, is renowned for its deep-rooted history and tradition. Introduced to Iceland by early Viking settlers over a thousand years ago, this purebred has remained isolated from other breeds, preserving its unique characteristics.

Icelandic horses are known for their resilience, playful nature, and unique gaits called the "tolt" and the "flying pace." Enjoy a smooth and comfortable journey riding an Icelandic horse, even over uneven terrains.

Your adventure starts on a high note. After a short ride through picturesque country trails, you'll see the mesmerizing Reykjafoss waterfall. Named "the steaming falls" by locals due to the mist that rises from its cascading waters, it's a sight that captivates and offers moments of tranquil reflection.

The journey becomes even more exhilarating with numerous river crossings. Feel the thrill as the cool waters brush against the horse's legs, showcasing your trusty companion's poise and calm demeanor.

Venturing into the expansive landscapes of the river delta Heradsvotn, riders might have the opportunity, depending on the season, to enjoy birdwatching or gather sweet crowberries during a short break. The delta boasts natural beauty and provides the ideal terrain to experience the tolt, the special gait that sets the Icelandic horse apart.

The terrains of North Iceland are a visual treat. Expansive meadows stretch into the distance, intersected by meandering rivers, all set against towering mountains. Each turn offers new vistas, ensuring riders remain enthralled by their surroundings.

As the journey nears its end and riders return to the base, there's a sense of accomplishment and a newfound admiration for the incredible landscapes of Iceland and the remarkable abilities of the Icelandic horse.

Delve deep into the wonders of North Iceland, riding atop a majestic horse and experiencing excitement and serenity during this 3-hour horse riding tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
