See the waterfalls, glacier, and black sand beaches of Iceland's South Coast on this small-group minibus tour from Reykjavik, with stops at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Skogafoss Waterfall, Solheimajokull Glacier, and Reynisfjara Beach.
You're picked up from your hotel or guesthouse in Reykjavik, or from the nearest bus stop if your accommodation is in an area closed to commercial traffic. Then you head east along the South Coast through the Icelandic countryside.
Your first stop is Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, which drops 197 feet (60 meters) into a plunge pool with a large cave behind it. A path lets you walk behind the waterfall and see it from the other side.
Nearby is Gljufrabui Waterfall, hidden inside a narrow canyon. You reach it through a narrow opening in the rocks, where the waterfall drops from above.
Next is Skogafoss Waterfall, also 197 feet (60 meters) high, which has appeared in "Game of Thrones," "Thor," and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." On sunny days, you may see rainbows here, and a staircase leads to the top of the falls. According to local legend, the first settler in the area hid a chest of treasure behind the waterfall.
After a lunch stop at a restaurant or cafe, you visit Solheimajokull Glacier, an outlet glacier of Myrdalsjokull Glacier. From the viewpoint, you can see the glacier and the small lagoon forming in front of it as the ice recedes.
Then you visit Dyrholaey Promontory, with its dramatic cliffs, rock arch, and views of the black sand beaches and the ocean. In summer, it's one of the best places in Iceland to see puffins.
Next, you reach Reynisfjara Beach, a black sand beach with hexagonal basalt columns along the cliffs and powerful Atlantic waves. Watch the waves carefully and follow your guide's advice, as they can reach far up the beach without warning.
The final stop is Vik Village, the southernmost village in Iceland. From its hilltop church, you have panoramic views of the Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks.
You're dropped off in Reykjavik between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m., at your pickup point or another location in the city.
