Description

Pair horseback riding in Iceland with snorkeling in Silfra Fissure at Thingvellir National Park on a flexible self-drive tour. This journey offers an unforgettable mix of culture, natural beauty, and thrilling activities with expert guides in one day.

Enjoy the freedom of a self-drive itinerary without sacrificing the benefits of guided activities. Travel at your own pace between locations. Then join expert guides who handle safety, equipment, and storytelling to make each activity seamless and rewarding.

Begin your 7-hour tour at Laxnes Horse Farm, located about 30 minutes from Reykjavik. Here you’ll meet your sturdy Icelandic horse, a breed known for its gentle temperament and unique gait. Beginners and experienced riders alike can enjoy a safe and memorable adventure.

Ride across the beautiful Mosfellsdalur Valley on your Iceland horseback riding tour, surrounded by mountains and open fields. Your English-speaking guide will lead the group while sharing insights about the Icelandic horse, a national treasure.

After your ride, drive about 30 minutes to Thingvellir National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Iceland’s most important cultural landmarks, set along the famous Golden Circle route. You’ll have free time to explore before your next adventure.

Use this break to walk among dramatic geological formations or have lunch at the cafe in Thingvellir National Park. Restrooms and parking are available on-site before you begin your snorkeling tour at Silfra.

Silfra fissure lies between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. With over 328 feet (100 meters) of visibility, it is one of the clearest dive sites on Earth. Snorkeling here allows you to glide through waters unlike anywhere else.

Meet your certified snorkeling guide, who provides a dry suit, gear, and safety instructions. Then, follow them through Silfra’s four sections, showcasing colorful rock formations and surreal underwater views as you float in the fissure.

Once in the water, feel the calm of Silfra’s pure, near-freezing glacial spring. Stunning colors, crystal clarity, and the sensation of snorkeling make it one of Iceland’s most extraordinary experiences.

To stay comfortable, bring long underwear, thick socks, and weather-appropriate layers suited to changing conditions. If you need vision correction, contact lenses or a prescription mask are recommended for snorkeling in Silfra’s waters.

Paired with a horseback riding experience, the tour is perfect for adventurous travelers seeking variety and unforgettable memories. From riding Icelandic horses to floating between continents, the activities complement each other beautifully.

Enjoy horseback riding in Iceland and snorkeling in Silfra Fissure at Thingvellir National Park on this meet-on-location tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.

What to bring

Long underwear
Thick socks
Weather-appropriate clothing
Contact lenses or a prescription mask if needed

Good to know

Iceland’s weather changes quickly, so dress in warm layers and bring a waterproof outer layer. Long underwear and thick socks are essential for the snorkeling tour, while sturdy clothing is recommended for horseback riding.

This tour is not suitable for pregnant individuals because of the small risk of cold water entering the dry suit. For everyone else, dressing in warm layers is essential. Wear a thermal base layer and thick socks under the dry suit provided. All snorkeling equipment, including dry suits, masks, and fins, will be included to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.

You’ll spend about 30–40 minutes in Silfra’s glacier-clear water, so being prepared makes all the difference. After your dive, you’ll be treated to hot chocolate and cookies to warm up. While food is not included, you’re welcome to bring along snacks or water, and you can also stop by the café at Thingvellir National Park between activities.

Please note that snorkeling masks cannot be worn with glasses, so contact lenses are recommended if needed. For safety, participants must fall within the dry suit size range of 99–265 lbs (45–120 kg) and 4'11"–6'7" (150–200 cm). If you have any health concerns, we recommend consulting your doctor before booking.

Both meeting points have restrooms and parking available, making the day smooth and convenient for self-driving travelers.
