Get a taste of adventure and feel the chill of ice on this glacier hiking and ice climbing tour. Place your feet on ice for the ultimate Icelandic experience.

This four-hour long glacier hike and ice climbing tour is suitable for both the experienced and first-time glacier adventurers alike. Certified and experienced guides will be with you for the duration of your tour to ensure your safety, teach you ice climbing techniques and explain you this mind blowing phenomenon.

Ice hiking and ice climbing is a perfect way to get up close and personal with the glacier that formed over 500 years ago. A veritable natural wonder of this earth, a glacier is a place to experience the spirit of this land.

Sólheimajökull is a glacial tongue from the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier and is situated next to the famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier volcano, surrounded by black sand expanses and jagged mountains.

This tour starts at the Sólhemajökull parking lot, where you will meet your guides and prepare for the tour. All gear is included so you will get your ice axes, and crampons on site, but please remember to dress warmly, we're voyaging onto an ice-cap after all. It is necessary to bring gloves for the climbing to protect your hands from getting scratched by the hard ice.

From the parking lot, there's a 30-minute hike to the glacier roots where you will have plenty of time to marvel at the gigantic mass of ice. Don't worry, as you walk on the glacier, your crampons will give you safe footing on the slippery ice.

Once on the glacier, your guide will provide you with climbing gear and assist you with your harness, crampons, ice axe and helmet. Never done ice climbing before? No worries; your experienced guide will teach you all you need to know.

You'll learn how to ascend the vertical ice shafts that lead to the heart of the glacier, known as the Moulin, with the assistance of a climbing rope, harness and your trusty ice axe. Deep under the glacier the volcano Katla sleeps, and who knows, you might catch a glimpse of her far below.

Gear up, head out on this amazing adventure and feel the ice under your feet. Check booking availability to choosing a date.

Fantastic tour. Our guide Michael (likely spelling this incorrectly) was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed talking with him about Iceland and various other topics. The glacier was gorgeous and the hiking/climbing were a lot of fun.

Fantastic! Could not recommend this any more highly. Beautiful scenery, very nice guide and you get to climb up an ice wall after a short hike.

Our guide "BRIGHT" was so kind to us and we had awesome experiences. We got to know this tour by searching on Internet. We went the meeting point by a rent car from Reykjavik. Actually, I was exhausted before I joined the tour because I have driven for long time. But, I could see some great waterfalls on the way to the meeting point. Ice climbing in the tour was so excited and so fun because "BRIGHT" always helps us. And,he taught me about icelandic souvenir I ask him. We so thank him. We had a great experience in the tour. Thank you all.

Helgi was our tour guide and I have to say that both Helgi and the tour were first class . It was nice to be part of a smaller tour not a huge bus load . The equipment that the team at Troll have is exceptional. We hiked out to the Glacier and Helgi shared his knowledge about the glacier , we then had a few practice runs with the equipment before having a go climbing out of a crevasse . I am a person that loves trying everything but can get quite nervous . Helgi was fantastic as he talked me through the whole process and I have to say it was an amazing adrenaline rush . Highly recommend our guide and this company

The climb was one of the best parts of our trip! The glacier itself is very beautiful so it is definitely rewarding to spend a few hours there. We are not that kind of very sporty people but our guide was really friendly and helpful to teach us. The whole experience is so much fun! Definitely recommended! :D

We enjoyed this tour so much! I would highly recommend it. Hiking on the glacier was such a unique experience and very beautiful. Our guides showed us many special spots they had found on the glacier, like ice caves, and were very friendly and helpful. They made sure we all felt comfortable in our gear and that the pace was good everyone. The ice climbing was very exciting and a great adrenaline rush, but also easy enough for anyone to do. I'm not a big fan of guided tours normally, but this one was especially worth it since the guides have all the equipment and knowledge to keep you safe on the glacier. Very fun!

We loved this! We had a small group (six of us total with our guide) and we enjoyed the pit stop to learn how to ice climb. Appreciate having hiking boots and crampons supplied. This was about a four-hour tour so well worth the cost!

This was a highlight of our trip to Iceland! Learning to ice climb was so much fun and we learned a lot about the glacier from our guide. We had a small group of three and were able to spend a lot of time climbing. I highly recommend this tour if you're looking for something a little more adventurous than a hike!
