Description
Summary
Description
Jump aboard this Super Jeep tour to discover the stunning sights of South Iceland. This magical land is renowned for its diverse landscapes of farmlands, waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches and spectacular rock formations.
This tour is for anyone who longs for the natural beauty of Iceland; you will get to see some of its most popular sites, as well as some lesser-known gems. The limited seats on your Super Jeep mean that your trip will be comfortable and personal.
You’ll be picked up from your accommodation in Reykjavík in the morning, and head to the first of four waterfalls you will visit, Urriðafoss. This is the largest and the most spectacular waterfall on the river Þjórsá. A relatively unknown site, it is an ideal place for photographers, with beautiful surroundings and few crowds.
The next waterfall, Seljalandsfoss, is better known; it is tall, surrounded by verdant fields, and has a path that goes all the way around it, leading to some spectacular views. Very close by, but often overlooked, is the equally beautiful Gljúfrárfoss, which is hidden in a mountainside ravine and breathtaking to look upon.
The fourth waterfall, Skógafoss, is mightily powerful, and on a sunny day, tosses off many little rainbows that take it from spectacular to otherworldly. A set of stairs beside the falls means that you can view it from several different, equally impressive vantage points.
Your next destination is Sólheimajökull, a magnificent glacier tongue. As you approach it, you will see a huge diversity of colour. Veins of black ash snake through the ice, evidence of eruptions that occurred centuries ago, and the streaks of blue are so vivid that they do not seem natural.
Next, you will travel to the black sands of the South Coast, to witness the area’s most incredible rock formations. Dyrhólaey is a fascinating arch that juts out into the ocean, beautiful in and of itself, but an even greater sight in summer, when thousands of puffins nest within its nooks.
Right beside this is a stunning beach, Reynisfjara. Looking out across the daunting waves of the North Atlantic, you can observe Reynisdrangar, two basalt sea stacks that stand tall from the ocean, said to be trolls petrified long ago by the light of the morning sun.
Finally, you’ll head to the quaint settlement of Vík, the most southerly village in the country. This town is incredibly scenic, and you will get to drink in its charm before heading back to Reykjavík.
Don’t sleep through the return journey, however. If the weather is clear, you will be able to see the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, the Westman Islands out to sea, and the volcano Hekla.
With so much beauty to be seen within a day, you don’t want to miss this adventure. Explore the South Coast, and fall in love with its beautiful sights. Check availability by choosing a date.
